Effects of electrical stimulation in vestibular cortex areas in humans.

The case of a patient with focal epilepsy is reported who underwent presurgical evaluation by stereotactic intracranial electroencephalographic (EEG) recording. A subdural semi-grid electrode, consisting of three multi-channel strip electrodes, was implanted over the temporal lobe and temporo-occipital region; one multi-channel depth electrode was applied towards the posterior insular cortex. Fixation-related potentials in naming speed: A combined EEG and eye-tracking study on children with dyslexia.

Abstract Objective We combined electroencephalography (EEG) and eye-tracking recordings to examine the underlying factors elicited during the serial Rapid-Automatized Naming (RAN) task that may differentiate between children with dyslexia (DYS) and chronological age controls (CAC). Methods Thirty children with DYS and 30 CAC (Mage = 9.79 years; age range 7.6 through 12.1 years) performed a set of serial RAN tasks. Abstract To evaluate the development of idiopathic infantile asymmetry and the efficacy of therapeutic interventions, spinal scoliosis can be quantified on the basis of radiographs. For obvious reasons, use of this technique is limited. Here we present a clinical method to describe and quantify infantile asymmetry. Ocular ductions after rectus muscle recession and resection in thyroid eye disease.

Background: Recession and resection of rectus muscles for correction of strabismus in Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) is relatively unpopular as it is assumed to enhance the restriction of ocular ductions. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare ductions of recession only and recess/resect procedures. Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RSTS) is a rare dominant disorder with intellectual disability, postnatal growth deficiency, and multiple congenital anomalies. Approximately 50-70% of the patients have a mutation in the CREBBP gene (RSTS1) and 5-10% display an EP300 gene mutation (RSTS2). Craniospinal abnormalities such as microcranium, scoliosis, and lordosis are frequent findings in RSTS1, but malformations of the brain or spinal cord are seen only occasionally. Quantitative Alexandrov theorem and asymptotic behavior of the volume preserving mean curvature flow

We prove a new quantitative version of the Alexandrov theorem which states that if the mean curvature of a regular set in Rn+1 is close to a constant in the Ln sense, then the set is close to a union of disjoint balls with respect to the Hausdorff distance. This result is more general than the previous quantifications of the Alexandrov theorem, and using it we are able to show that in R2 and R3 a weak solution of the volume preserving mean curvature flow starting from a set of finite perimeter asymptotically convergences to a disjoint union of equisize balls, up to possible translations. Here by a weak solution we mean a flat flow, obtained via the minimizing movements scheme. peerReviewed

Attentional biases toward emotional images in the different episodes of bipolar disorder: an eye-tracking study.

Attentional biases toward emotional information may represent vulnerability and maintenance factors in bipolar disorder (BD). The present experimental study examined the processing of emotional information in BD patients using the eye-tracking technology. Bipolar patients in their different states (euthymia, mania, depression) simultaneously viewed four pictures with different emotional valence (happy, neutral, sad, threatening) for 20 s while their eye movements were monitored.
