Why do we like the music we like and why do different people like different kinds of music? Existing models try to explain music preference as an interplay of musical features, the characteristics of the listener, and the listening context. Hereby, they refer to short-term preference decisions for a given piece of music rather than to the question why we listen to music at all and why we select a particular musical style. We try to show that up to now scholars (following Westphal) have attributed too many parts of the ps.-plutarcheo tract "De musica" to Eraclide Pontico; the unknown author drew from the latter only what he says he read in Sicyon's inscription.

Quando eu era criança, imaginava que tudo na Itália tinha o cheiro e a forma das músicas de Lucio Dalla. Do primeiro Lucio Dalla. Hoje, Dalla representa um pouco a imagem triste da decadência da parte mais bela do país onde escolhi viver. Um pouco como aquelas virgens deprimidas e infelizes que a religião católica impõe aos seus fiéis. Na gênese, Lucio Dalla era de esquerda, genial, "malgré lui". Em 1976, pouco antes que eu nascesse, seu amigo Chico Buarque, que o tinha conhecido quando exilado na Itália, lhe escreveu uma carta sobre um Brasil em plena ditadura. Uma das músicas mais visionarias da historia da MPB: "Meu Caro Amigo".
