Da “luoghi” di scarto a “spazi” di innovazione. Piani e politiche per i territori agricoli periurbani

2014

Concerning the new post-metropolitan area, the peri-urban territories, also due to the vagueness of their structural components, have become po-lisemical and plural places. From border areas between urban and rural functions, they have turned into integration places dealing with those two functions, getting out indeed their own plural identities. They are unsteady places, not even urban and no longer rural; border areas not only in spatial and administrative terms but also as regard a conceptual profile, which – such as a mosaic where settlement, agricultural and environmental systems interact and coexist- ask for clarification and mutuality reformulation between populated areas environment…

Role of Enolase/MBP-1 in non-tumorigenic and cancer cells

The glycolytic enzyme α-enolase is a highly conserved protein involved in multiple functions (Díaz-Ramos A et al 2012). Besides the mainly cytoplasmic localization, the protein has been detected on the surface of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells where it functions as a plasminogen receptor, while a shorter variant, called Myc promoter-binding protein-1 (MBP-1), is mainly located in the nucleus. Several lines of evidence indicate that MBP-1 acts as a tumor suppressor, negatively regulating cell proliferation or promoting apoptosis of cancer cells. Although a few reports indicate that stressful conditions, such as glucose deprivation or hypoxia, may modulate MBP-1 expression in mammalian cell…

Novel antiproliferative chimeric compounds with marked histone deacetylase inhibitory activity.

2014

Given our interest in finding potential antitumor agents and in view of the multifactorial mechanistic nature of cancer, in the present work, taking advantage of the multifunctional ligands approach, new chimeric molecules were designed and synthesized by combining in single chemical entities structural features of SAHA, targeting histone deacetylases (HDACs), with substituted stilbene or terphenyl derivatives previously obtained by us and endowed with antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic activity. The new chimeric derivatives were characterized with respect to their cytotoxic activity and their effects on cell cycle progression on different tumor cell lines, as well as their HDACs inhibitio…

Explorative study of multifunctional agriculture in a Sicilian inland area

2016

The study investigates the agricultural multifunctional activities carried out in a Sicilian typical rural area, the motivations for entrepreneurial choices and the overall level of satisfaction. An exploratory survey was therefore carried out on a selected group of 13 farms localized in 3 Sicilian provinces, with the goal to identify strengths and weaknesses of their multifunctional activities. From the farm survey, several positive results came to light, among which a wide variety of services and activities, an increase in farm workforce and a high level in communication and Internet services. On the other hand, some criticalities emerged in the transition process, such as heavy delays in…

Bio-nano: Theranostic at Cellular Level

2018

Functionalized nanoparticles are important platforms for targeted drug delivery and multimodal imaging. Materials scientists provide tailor-made tools for medical research, diagnosis and treatment. These tools are rationally designed to have defined functions. Still, the value of these tools can only be determined by the users in medical sciences that develop assays for applying these tools. Until now, little is known about the impact of multifunctional particles that display intrinsic chemical and physical asymmetry which poses new challenges for cells associated with the amphiphilicity, dipole moments and chemical diversity/patchiness of the functionalized nanoparticles. Why is it importa…

Multifunctionality: Epistemic diversity and concept oriented research clusters

2008

International audience; This paper provides a mapping of the different uses of the word multifunctionality. To explore the diversity of meanings and interpretations, a comparative analysis was conducted through five national case studies in France, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Switzerland. The analysis conducted at national level makes it possible to identify eight Concept Oriented Research Clusters (CORCs), based on a relative homogeneity in the research practices, in the research questions addressed, in the concepts used or discussed by scientists to lead their work and in the scientific disciplines, the stream of thought or possibly the epistemic community researchers belong to. Integrals and selections of multifunctions with values in an arbitrary banach space

2017

In this note we will address some recent as well as classical results on multivalued integrals for multifunctions taking values in the hyperspace of convex weakly compact subsets of a general Banach space. In particular the existence of selections integrable in the same sense of the corresponding multifunctions will be considered.

Relations among Henstock, McShane and Pettis integrals for multifunctions with compact convex values

2013

Fremlin (Ill J Math 38:471–479, 1994) proved that a Banach space valued function is McShane integrable if and only if it is Henstock and Pettis integrable. In this paper we prove that the result remains valid also in case of multifunctions with compact convex values being subsets of an arbitrary Banach space (see Theorem 3.4). Di Piazza and Musial (Monatsh Math 148:119–126, 2006) proved that if \(X\) is a separable Banach space, then each Henstock integrable multifunction which takes as its values convex compact subsets of \(X\) is a sum of a McShane integrable multifunction and a Henstock integrable function. Here we show that such a decomposition is true also in case of an arbitrary Banac…
