Statistical learning and multiple linear regression model for network selection using MIH

2014

Award of Appreciation; International audience; A key requirement to provide seamless mobility and guaranteeing Quality of Service in heterogeneous environment is to select the best destination network during handover. In this paper, we propose a new schema for network selection based on Multiple Linear Regression Model (MLRM). A horough investigation, on a huge live data collected from GPRS/UMTS networks led to identify the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that play the most important role in the handover process. These KPIs are: Received Signal Code Power (RSCP), received energy per chip (Ec/No) and Available Bandwidth (ABW) of the destination network. To extract a handover model from col…

Organizational Cooperation and Knowledge Management in Research and Development Organizations

2017

Organizational Cooperation (OC) is a current concept that responds to the growing interdependence among individuals and teams. Likewise, Knowledge Management (KM) accompanies specialization in all sectors of human activity. Most KM processes are cooperation-intensive, and the way both constructs relate to each other is relevant in understanding organizations and promoting performance. The present paper focuses on that relationship. The Organizational Cooperation Questionnaire (ORCOQ) and the Short form of the Knowledge Management Questionnaire (KMQ-SF) were applied to 639 members of research and development (R&D) organizations (Universities and Research Institutes). Descriptive, correla…

Rapid Evaluation of Oxidized Fatty Acid Concentration in Virgin Olive Oils Using Metal Oxide Semiconductor Sensors and Multiple Linear Regression

2009

This works aims to set up a rapid and nondestructive method to evaluate the advanced oxidation of virgin olive oils (VOOs). An electronic nose based on an array of six metal oxide semiconductor sensors was used, jointly with multiple linear regression (MLR), to predict the oxidized fatty acid (OFA) concentration in VOO samples characterized by different oxidative status. An MLR model constructed using five predictors was able to predict OFA concentration with an average validation error of 9%.

Influence of cell proportions and proliferation rates on FDG uptake in squamous-cell esophageal carcinoma: a PET study.

2008

We investigated the influence of cell proportions and proliferation activities on tumor maximum standard uptake value (SUV(max)) in patients with squamous-cell esophageal cancer (SCEC).Sixteen (16) patients with untreated SCEC were examined with (18)F-flourodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET). The tumor SUV(max) were calculated. Tumors were resected by transthoracic esophagectomy. Tissues were stained with hematoxylin and eosin for the measurement of cell proportions and MIB-1 for measurement of proliferation indices (PIs). Tumor SUV and histologic data were related by using multiple linear regression analysis. The mean proportion of tumor cells in the tumor site was 58.1% (+…

Physical Activity and Self-Rated Health among 55- to 89-Year-Old Dutch People

1999

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of physical activity and the possible mediating role of perceived physical self-efficacy (PPSE) on self-rated health (SRH) in the 55- to 89-year-old Dutch population. The data are based on a structured interview carried out in a random sample of 120 subjects-60 men and 60 women with the average ages of 69 and 71 years, respectively-in Sassenheim, the Netherlands, as a pilot study of the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam (LASA). The results of linear multiple regression analyses showed that physical activity was a significant predictor of self-rated health. Moreover, the results supported the role of PPSE as a mediator in the association bet…

The impact of birth weight on pulse pressure during adolescence

2004

Background The objective was to study the influence of birth weight on office and ambulatory pulse pressure. Methods and results Three hundred healthy children (176 girls), aged 10–18 years, born at term after a normotensive pregnancy were included. The subjects were divided according to birth weight: 2.000–2.500 kg, 2.501–3.000 kg, 3.001–3.500 kg and >3.500 kg. For each subject, office and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring were performed according to the protocol designed. There were significant differences among groups in 24-h ambulatory systolic blood pressure, and pulse pressure (PP). No differences were observed in terms of sex, current age, weight and height. Using a multiple …

Associations Between Physical and Executive Functions Among Community-Dwelling Older Men and Women

2022

Walking is a complex task requiring the interplay of neuromuscular, sensory, and cognitive functions. Owing to the age-related decline in cognitive and physical functions, walking may be compromised in older adults, for cognitive functions, especially poor performance in executive functions, is associated with slow walking speed. Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate the associations between different subdomains of executive functions and physical functions and whether the associations found differ between men and women. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed on data collected from 314 community-dwelling older adults who did not meet physical activity guidelines but had…

Relationship among Corneal Biomechanics, Refractive Error, and Axial Length

2014

Purpose To evaluate the relationship between different ocular and corneal biomechanical parameters in emmetropic and ametropic healthy white children. Methods This study included 293 eyes of 293 healthy Spanish children (135 boys and 158 girls), ranging in age from 6 to 17 years. Subjects were divided according to the refractive error: control (emmetropia, 99 children), myopia (100 children), and hyperopia (94 children) groups. In all cases, corneal hysteresis (CH) and corneal resistance factor (CRF) were evaluated with the Ocular Response Analyzer system. Axial length (AL) and mean corneal power were also measured by partial coherence interferometry (IOLMaster), and central corneal thickne…

DesMol2, an Effective Tool for the Construction of Molecular Libraries and Its Application to QSAR Using Molecular Topology

2019

A web application, DesMol2, which offers two main functionalities, is presented: the construction of molecular libraries and the calculation of topological indices. These functionalities are explained through a practical example of research of active molecules to the formylpeptide receptor (FPR), a receptor associated with chronic inflammation in systemic amyloidosis and Alzheimer&rsquo
