In this paper, we consider a long-term evolution (LTE) system for the downlink by using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) techniques. The downlink channel is modeled by the socalled extended MIMO one-ring model. This model extends the well-known narrowband one-ring model with respect to frequency selectivity. The increasing popularity of optical communication has also brought a demand for a broader bandwidth. The trend, naturally, was to implement methods from traditional electronic communication. One of the most effective traditional methods is Code Division Multiple Access. In this research, we suggest the use of this approach for spatial coding applied to images. The approach is to multiplex several filters into one plane while keeping their mutual orthogonality. It is shown that if the filters are limited by their bandwidth, the output of all the filters can be sampled in the original image resolution and fully recovered through an all-optical setup. Cytotoxicity of Artesunic Acid Homo- and Heterodimer Molecules toward Sensitive and Multidrug-Resistant CCRF-CEM Leukemia Cells

A novel approach to circumvent multidrug resistance is hybridization of natural products in dimers. We analyzed homodimers of two artesunic acid molecules and heterohybrids of artesunic acid and betulin in human CCRF-CEM and multidrug-resistant P-glycoprotein-overexpressing CEM/ADR5000 leukemia cells. Multidrug-resistant cells were not cross-resistant to the novel compounds. Collateral sensitivity was observed for artesunic acid homodimer. Artesunic acid and artesunic acid homodimer induced G0/G1 cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and formation of reactive oxygen species.

The transport of oxygen in the hemolymph of many arthropod and mollusc species is mediated by large copper-proteins that are referred to as hemocyanins. Arthropod hemocyanins are composed of hexamers and oligomers of hexamers. Arachnid hemocyanins usually form 4 x 6-mers consisting of seven distinct subunit types (termed a-g), although in some spider taxa deviations from this standard scheme have been observed. In candidate gene association studies, usually several elementary hypotheses are tested simultaneously using one particular set of data. The data normally consist of partly correlated SNP information. Every SNP can be tested for association with the disease, e.g., using the Cochran-Armitage test for trend. Many authors have proposed different approaches to combine multiple endpoints in a univariate outcome measure in the literature. In case of binary or time-to-event variables, composite endpoints, which combine several event types within a single event or time-to-first-event analysis are often used to assess the overall treatment effect. A main drawback of this approach is that the interpretation of the composite effect can be difficult as a negative effect in one component can be masked by a positive effect in another. A Comment on the Coefficient of Determination for Binary Responses

Abstract Linear logistic or probit regression can be closely approximated by an unweighted least squares analysis of the regression linear in the conditional probabilities provided that these probabilities for success and failure are not too extreme. It is shown how this restriction on the probabilities translates into a restriction on the range of the coefficient of determination R 2 so that, as a consequence, R 2 is not suitable to judge the effectiveness of linear regressions with binary responses even if an important relation is present.

This sets up a multiple testing problem fork pairs of one-sided hypotheses. Holm's (1979, Scandinavian Journal of Statistics 6:65–70) sequentially rejective test provides a solution the critical levels of which are slightly improved. Considerable improvement is obtained when the hypotheses are redefined to be disjoint in pairs.
