MultiChannel Multiple Scattering Theory for XAFS. Application to L2,3 Edges of Ca

2005

We present a multichannel extension of the multiple scattering method for x-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy that allows to take account of atomic multiplet-like electron correlation effects in condensed systems, on the basis of ab initio electron structure calculations. The formalism is outlined and an application to near-edge XAFS at the L2,3 edges of Ca metal is presented. In this system, the experimentally observed branching ratio deviates strongly from that obtained from the standard (one-electron) approach to XAFS. This is due to that fact that one-electron theory neglects the multiplet coupling between the photo-electron and the 2p core-hole. Within the multi-channel…

Correlation and spin polarization in quantum dots: Local spin density functional theory revisited

2005

Using quantum dot artificial atoms as a simple toy model, we reflect on the question of whether spin density functional theory (SDFT) can accurately describe correlation effects in low-dimensional fermion systems. Different expressions for the local density approximation of the exchange-correlation energy for the two-dimensional electron gas, such as the much-used functional of Tanatar and Ceperley, and the recent suggestion by Attaccalite et al., are compared with the results of a numerical diagonalization of the many-body Hamiltonian matrix in the limit of small electron numbers. For systems with degeneracies, as shown in the present work for the example of a spin triplet with S = 1, the …

Some aspects of deformations of supersymmetric field theories

2000

We investigate some aspects of Moyal-Weyl deformations of superspace and their compatibility with supersymmetry. For the simplest case, when only bosonic coordinates are deformed, we consider a four dimensional supersymmetric field theory which is the deformation of the Wess-Zumino renormalizable theory of a chiral superfield. We then consider the deformation of a free theory of an abelian vector multiplet, which is a non commutative version of the rank one Yang-Mills theory. We finally give the supersymmetric version of the $\alpha'\mapsto 0$ limit of the Born-Infeld action with a B-field turned on, which is believed to be related to the non commutative U(1) gauge theory.

D=4 supergravity dynamically coupled to superstring in a superfield Lagrangian approach

2003

We elaborate a full superfield description of the interacting system of dynamical D=4, N=1 supergravity and dynamical superstring. As far as minimal formulation of the simple supergravity is used, such a system should contain as well the tensor (real linear) multiplet which describes the dilaton and the two-superform gauge field whose pull-back provides the Wess-Zumino term for the superstring. The superfield action is given by the sum of the Wess-Zumino action for D=4, N=1 superfield supergravity, the superfield action for the tensor multiplet in curved superspace and the Green-Schwarz superstring action. The latter includes the coupling to the tensor multiplet both in the Nambu-Goto and i…

Lagrangians for Massive Dirac Chiral Superfields

2016

A variant for the superspin one-half massive superparticle in $ 4D $, $ \mathcal{N}=1 $, based on Dirac superfields, is offered. As opposed to the current known models that use spinor chiral superfields, the propagating fields of the supermultiplet are those of the lowest mass dimensions possible: scalar, Dirac and vector fields. Besides the supersymmetric chiral condition, the Dirac superfields are not further constrained, allowing a very straightforward implementation of the path-integral method. The corresponding superpropagators are presented. In addition, an interaction super Yukawa potential, formed by Dirac and scalar chiral superfields, is given in terms of their component fields. T…

Matter Induced Bimetric Actions for Gravity

2011

The gravitational effective average action is studied in a bimetric truncation with a nontrivial background field dependence, and its renormalization group flow due to a scalar multiplet coupled to gravity is derived. Neglecting the metric contributions to the corresponding beta functions, the analysis of its fixed points reveals that, even on the new enlarged theory space which includes bimetric action functionals, the theory is asymptotically safe in the large $N$ expansion.

Superfield commutators for D = 4 chiral multiplets and their apppications

1987

The superfield commutators and their corresponding equal-time limits are derived in a covariant way for the D=4 free massive chiral multiplet. For interesting chiral multiplets, the general KAllen-Lehmann representation is also introduced. As applications of the free superfield commutators, the general solution of the Cauchy problem for chiral superfields is given, and an analysis of the closure of the bilinear products of superfields which desrcibe the extension of the internal currents for free supersymmetric chiral matter is performed.

Equivariance in topological gravity

1992

Abstract We present models of topological gravity for a variety of moduli space conditions. In four dimensions, we construct a model for self-dual gravity characterized by the moduli condition R + μν =0, and in two dimensions we treat the case of constant scalar curvature. Details are also given for both flat and Yang-Mills type moduli conditions in arbitrary dimensions. All models are based on the same fundamental multiplet which conveniently affords the construction of a complete hierarchy of observables. This approach is founded on a symmetry algebra which includes a local vector supersymmetry, in addition to a global BRST-like symmetry which is equivariant with respect to Lorentz transf…

One-loop calculation of the oblique S parameter in higgsless electroweak models

2012

We present a one-loop calculation of the oblique S parameter within Higgsless models of electroweak symmetry breaking and analyze the phenomenological implications of the available electroweak precision data. We use the most general effective Lagrangian with at most two derivatives, implementing the chiral symmetry breaking SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R -> SU(2)_{L+R} with Goldstones, gauge bosons and one multiplet of vector and axial-vector massive resonance states. Using the dispersive representation of Peskin and Takeuchi and imposing the short-distance constraints dictated by the operator product expansion, we obtain S at the NLO in terms of a few resonance parameters. In asymptotically-free gauge …
