The new technology of the Multislice-CT provides volume data sets with approximately isotropic resolution, which permits a non invasive measurement of diffuse lung diseases like emphysema in the 3D space. The aim of our project is the development of a full automatic 3D CAD (Computer Aided Diagnosis) software tool for detection, quantification and characterization of emphysema in a thoracic CT data set. Reducing time requirements for the primary diagnostic evaluation is a major concern in the early phase of polytrauma management. Multislice-CT (MSCT) is a quick and reliable method for the initial diagnostic evaluation. Computed tomography provides more detailed and more consistent information than conventional radiography. Rapid prototyping modelling in oral and maxillofacial surgery: a two year retrospective study

Background The use of rapid prototyping (RP) models in medicine to construct bony models is increasing. Material and Methods The aim of the study was to evaluate retrospectively the indication for the use of RP models in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Helsinki University Central Hospital during 2009-2010. Also, the used computed tomography (CT) examination – multislice CT (MSCT) or cone beam CT (CBCT) - method was evaluated. Results In total 114 RP models were fabricated for 102 patients. The mean age of the patients at the time of the production of the model was 50.4 years. Ziel der Arbeit: Es sollte ein Softwareassistent fur die automatisierte Auswertung von CT-Angiographien entwickelt werden, der die Visualisierung des Gefaslumens und eine quantitative Auswertung von Stenosen ermoglicht. Die klinische Erprobung erfolgt am Beispiel der A. carotis. Methodik: Bei insgesamt zwolf Patienten mit Verdacht auf eine hohergradige Stenose der Karotiden wurde eine CT-Angiographie (CTA) mit einem Mehrzeilen-CT durchgefuhrt.
