The Benefit of Multislice CT in the Emergency Room Management of Polytraumatized Patients
2006
The early treatment of polytraumatized patients needs an effective and standardized approach. Reducing time requirements for the primary diagnostic evaluation is a major concern in the early phase of polytrauma management. Multislice-CT (MSCT) is a quick and reliable method for the initial diagnostic evaluation. Computed tomography provides more detailed and more consistent information than conventional radiography. It has the great advantage of allowing rapid examination of the head, vertebral column, chest, abdomen and pelvis during one single examination. The CT-suite needs to be adequately equipped for resuscitation and reanimation, which is done parallel to the radiological investigati…
Rapid prototyping modelling in oral and maxillofacial surgery: a two year retrospective study
2015
Background The use of rapid prototyping (RP) models in medicine to construct bony models is increasing. Material and Methods The aim of the study was to evaluate retrospectively the indication for the use of RP models in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Helsinki University Central Hospital during 2009-2010. Also, the used computed tomography (CT) examination – multislice CT (MSCT) or cone beam CT (CBCT) - method was evaluated. Results In total 114 RP models were fabricated for 102 patients. The mean age of the patients at the time of the production of the model was 50.4 years. The indications for the modelling included malignant lesions (29%), secondary reconstruction (25%), prosthodontic …
CT-Angiographie an einem 16-Schicht-CT zur perioperativen Evaluation der Leberarterien im Vergleich zur MR-Angiographie
2004
Purpose: To evaluate the efficiency of CT angiography (CTA) with 16-row MSCT compared with MR angiography (MRA) in analyzing the arterial anatomy in patients undergoing liver surgery. Materials and Methods: In 30 patients, MRA and CTA studies of the abdominal vessels were reviewed. CT parameters: slice thickness 3 mm; collimation 1.5; reconstruction interval 2 mm (Philips MX 8000 IDT); 120 ml contrast media (400 mg/ml) at a rate of 4 ml/ sec; acquisition of arterial-phase scans. The anatomy of the hepatic artery was evaluated from axial and reconstructed maximum-intensity-projection (MIP) images ("Slab-Viewer", Philips). MR parameters: contrast-enhanced coronal FLASH-3D sequences; slice thi…
Chronische thromboembolische pulmonale Hypertonie: Diagnostische Wertigkeit von Mehrschicht-CT und selektiver Pulmonalis-DSA
2002
Purpose To evaluate the diagnostic impact of multislice-CT and selective pulmonary DSA in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). Methods 994 vessel segments of 14 consecutive patients with CTEPH were investigated with multislice-CT (slice thickness 3 mm, collimation 2.5 mm, reconstruction intervall 2 mm) and selective pulmonary DSA (posterior-anterior, 45 degrees oblique, and lateral projection. Analysis was performed by 2 investigators independently for CT and DSA. Diagnostic criteria were occlusions and non-occlusive changes like webs and bands, irregularities of the vessel wall, diameter reduction and thromboembolic depositions at different levels from central pulmonary a…
Softwareassistierte CT-Nachverarbeitung am Beispiel der Karotiden
2004
A T2* MRI Prospective Survey on Heart and Liver Iron In Thalassemia Major Patients Treated with Deferasirox Versus Deferiprone and Desferrioxamine In…
2010
Abstract Abstract 4267 Introduction: Most deaths in thalassemia major (TM) result from cardiac complications due to iron overload. In thalassaemia available three iron chelation regimes in monotherapy may achieve different changes in cardiac iron and function and liver iron. No data are available in literature about prospective comparisons on cardiac iron and function and liver iron in TM patients treated with deferasirox (DFX) versus deferiprone (DFP) and desferrioxamine (DFO) in monotherapy. Magnetic Resonance (MR) is the unique non invasive suitable technique to evaluated quantitatively this issue. The aim of this multi-centre study was to assess prospectively in the clinical practice th…
Coronary plaque imaging with multislice computed tomography: technique and clinical applications.
2006
The composition of an atherosclerotic lesion, rather than solely the degree of stenosis, is considered to be an important determinant of acute coronary events. Whereas until recently only invasive techniques have been able to provide clues about plaque composition with consistent reproducibility, several recent studies have revealed the potential of multislice computed tomography (MSCT) for noninvasive plaque imaging. Coronary MSCT has the potential to detect coronary plaques and to characterize their composition based on the X-ray attenuating features of each structure. MSCT may also reveal the total plaque burden (calcified and noncalcified components) for individual patients with coronar…
