Prevalence of endodontic infection in patients with Crohn ́s disease and ulcerative colitis

2021

[Background] Previous studies have linked apical periodontitis (AP) to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of AP and root canal treatment (RCT) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn ́s disease (CD).

On the calculation of derived variables in the analysis of multivariate responses

1992

AbstractThe multivariate regression of a p × 1 vector Y of random variables on a q × 1 vector X of explanatory variables is considered. It is assumed that linear transformations of the components of Y can be the basis for useful interpretation whereas the components of X have strong individual identity. When p ≥ q a transformation is found to a new q × 1 vector of responses Y∗ such that in the multiple regression of, say, Y1∗ on X, only the coefficient of X1 is nonzero, i.e. such that Y1∗ is conditionally independent of X2, …, Xq, given X1. Some associated inferential procedures are sketched. An illustrative example is described in which the resulting transformation has aided interpretation.

Evaluation of the risk factors of asymptomatic vertebral fractures in postmenopausal women with osteopenia at the femoral neck

2016

To identify risk factors of asymptomatic vertebral fracture (aVF) in postmenopausal women with osteopenia at the femoral neck and to evaluate the association between the number of aVFs and the risk of major and hip osteoporotic fracture calculated with the FRAX(®) algorithm.Epidemiological case-series study with data collected transversally.728 postmenopausal women with osteopenia were included: 284 (39.0%) had aVF, of whom 200 (70.4%) had prior fragility fractures (FF). The likelihood of having an osteoporotic fracture in the next 10 years increased significantly with the number of aVF. The percentage of women with height loss, which was assessed as the difference between the greatest heig…

North/south differences among Italian emerging adults regarding criteria deemed important for adulthood and life satisfaction

2016

The main goal of this study was to compare Northern and Southern Italian emerging adult university students, regarding the importance attributed to criteria for adulthood and the levels of life and education satisfaction. Self-report questionnaires were filled by 475 Northern and Southern Italian University students (Age M = 22.91, 76% females, n = 359). Multivariate analysis of variance revealed that Southern emerging adults were more likely to place importance on family capacities, norm compliance, interdependence and role transitions as criteria for achieving adulthood than Northern emerging adults. Regarding gender differences, females were more likely to believe in the importance of no…

A new approach for clustering of effects in quantile regression

2017

In this paper we aim at nding similarities among the coefficients from a multivariate regression. Using a quantile regression coefficients modeling, the effect of each covariate, given a response (also multivariate) is a curve in the multidimensional space of the percentiles. Collecting all the curves, describing the effects of each covariate on each response variable, we could be able to assess if only one or more covariates have same effects on different responses.

Factors Associated with Decisions for Initial Dosing, Up-Titration of Propiverine and Treatment Outcomes in Overactive Bladder Syndrome Patients in a…

2021

Two doses of propiverine ER (30 and 45 mg/d) are available for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome. We have explored factors associated with the initial dosing choice (allocation bias), the decision to adapt dosing (escalation bias) and how dosing relative to other factors affects treatment outcomes. Data from two non-interventional studies of 1335 and 745 OAB patients, respectively, receiving treatment with propiverine, were analyzed post-hoc. Multivariate analysis was applied to identify factors associated with dosing decisions and treatment outcomes. Several parameters were associated with dose choice, escalation to higher dose or treatment outcomes, but only few exhibited…

The size and shape of shells used by hermit crabs: A multivariate analysis of Clibanarius erythropus

2009

Shell attributes such as weight and shape affect the reproduction, growth, predator avoidance and behaviour of several hermit crab species. Although the importance of these attributes has been extensively investigated, it is still difficult to assess the relative role of size and shape. Multivariate techniques allow concise and efficient quantitative analysis of these multidimensional properties, and this paper aims to understand their role in determining patterns of hermit crab shell use. To this end, a multivariate approach based on a combination of size-unconstrained (shape) PCA and RDA ordination was used to model the biometrics of southern Mediterranean Clibanarius erythropus populatio…

Anthropological investigation of a Kurdish village population from south-eastern Turkey. I. Regional comparison of morphological features

1988

The paper is dealing with an anthropological investigation of a Kurdish village population from southern Turkey. We especially attached importance on the complete registration of all inhabitants to get a reliable sample for regional comparison of morphological features. Anthropological data of other Kurdish population groups are used for univariate and multivariate analysis. The resulting clusters are discussed beside the question of representation under the standpoint of regional and cultural origin of the samples.

Geographical Disparities in Multiple Myeloma Survival in Three French Regions

2016

Abstract Introduction: Within the past decade, new therapeutic agents for Multiple Myeloma (MM) have improved survival of patients included in clinical trials. The aim of this study was to measure and compare characteristics and survival of patients with MM in different French regions in the general population. Methods: All incident cases with MM (ICD-O-3 codes, 9732/3 and) between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009 in the French population-based Hematological Malignancies registries (Calvados, Côte d'Or and Gironde) were included. The end point of follow-up was January 1, 2015. Specific clinical information was recorded from clinical charts. Incidence rates were calculated using estimat…

One-year survival of demented stroke patients: data from the Dijon Stroke Registry, France (1985-2008)

2011

Background and purpose:  Dementia is a frequent condition after stroke that may affect the prognosis of patients. Our aim was to determine whether post-stroke dementia was a predictor of 1-year case-fatality and to evaluate factors that could influence survival in demented stroke patients. Methods:  From 1985 to 2008, all first-ever strokes were recorded in the population-based stroke registry of Dijon, France (150 000 inhabitants). Dementia was diagnosed during the first month following stroke, according to DSM-III and DSM-IV criteria. Survival was evaluated at 1 year and multivariate analyses were performed using Cox proportional hazards to identify independent predictive factors. Results…
