Stochastic resonance in a trapping overdamped monostable system.

2009

The response of a trapping overdamped monostable system to a harmonic perturbation is analyzed, in the context of stochastic resonance phenomenon. We consider the dynamics of a Brownian particle moving in a piecewise linear potential with a white Gaussian noise source. Based on linear-response theory and Laplace transform technique, analytical expressions of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and signal power amplification (SPA) are obtained. We find that the SNR is a nonmonotonic function of the noise intensity, while the SPA is monotonic. Theoretical results are compared with numerical simulations.

A new gas sensor electronic interface with generalized impedance converter

2008

A new gas sensor conditioning circuit that allows a direct resistance-to-frequency conversion, as well as the procedure for the design, is presented. The generalized impedance converter (GIC) proposed is configured as a variable capacitor connected with the capacitor timing terminal of an astable multivibrator implemented by a PSoC (programmable system on chip) microcontroller device. The GIC effective input impedance, which is controlled by the gas sensor resistance, controls the astable output frequency. Good correlation of the experimental output frequency, which depends on the gas concentration, is achieved. The circuit is a simple gas sensor digital interface with frequency output.

Bistable phase locking of a laser via monochromatic signal injection

2009

In free running lasers the field phase is not fixed and any value possible value is equally likely (invariant), but can be locked to an external reference by injecting a monochromatic signal field into the cavity. In this way the phase of the slave laser locks to a single value resulting in a monostable phase locking. It could be however of practical interest that the laser field be locked not to a single value but to two different possible values, hence the name bistable phase locking.

Note: Direct sensor resistance-to-frequency conversion with generalized impedance converter.

2010

In this note a squared output signal is generated from an astable circuit. Its frequency has a linear dependence on the resistance value of a resistive temperature sensor. The main circuit to obtain this direct relationship is the generalized impedance converter configured as a capacitor controlled by a sensor resistance. The proposed measurement method allows a direct analog-to-digital interface of information involved in resistive sensors. The converter finds applications in portable low voltage and low power design of instrumentation electronic systems.
