LHC as an Axion Factory: Probing an Axion Explanation for (g−2)μ with Exotic Higgs Decays
2017
We argue that a large region of so-far unconstrained parameter space for axionlike particles (ALPs), where their couplings to the standard model are of order (0.01-1) TeV^{-1}, can be explored by searches for the exotic Higgs decays h→Za and h→aa in run 2 of the LHC. Almost the complete region in which ALPs can explain the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon can be probed by searches for these decays with subsequent decay a→γγ, even if the relevant couplings are loop suppressed and the a→γγ branching ratio is less than 1.
Observation of Electroweak Production of a Same-Sign W Boson Pair in Association with Two Jets in pp Collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector
2019
This Letter presents the observation and measurement of electroweak production of a same-sign W boson pair in association with two jets using 36.1 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis is performed in the detector fiducial phase-space region, defined by the presence of two same-sign leptons, electron or muon, and at least two jets with a large invariant mass and rapidity difference. A total of 122 candidate events are observed for a background expectation of 69±7 events, corresponding to an observed signal significance of 6.5 standard deviations. The measured fiducial s…
Search for heavy neutrinos at the NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN
2018
© The Authors, published by EDP Sciences. The NA48/2 experiment at CERN has collected large samples of charged kaons decaying into a pion and two muons for the search of heavy nuetrinos. In addition, its successor NA62 has set new limits on the rate of charged kaon decay into a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) and a lepton, with = e, µ, using the data collected in 2007 and 2015. New limits on heavy neutrinos from kaon decays into pions, muons and positrons are presented in this report.
Search for New Physics via Baryon EDM at LHC
2021
Permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) of fundamental particles provide powerful probes for physics beyond the Standard Model. We propose to search for the EDM of strange and charm baryons at LHC, extending the ongoing experimental program on the neutron, muon, atoms, molecules and light nuclei. The EDM of strange $\Lambda$ baryons, selected from weak decays of charm baryons produced in pp collisions at LHC, can be determined by studying the spin precession in the magnetic field of the detector tracking system. A test of CPT symmetry can be performed by measuring the magnetic dipole moment of $\Lambda$ and $\overline{\Lambda}$ baryons. For short-lived $\Lambda_c^+$ and $\Xi_c^+$ baryons, …
Search for Neutral, Long-Lived Particles Decaying into Two Muons inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2006
We present a search for a neutral particle, pair-produced in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, which decays into two muons and lives long enough to travel at least 5 cm before decaying. The analysis uses ~380 pb^-1 of data recorded with the D0 detector. The background is estimated to be about one event. No candidates are observed, and limits are set on the pair production cross section times branching fraction into dimuons + X for such particles. For a mass of 10 GeV and lifetime of 4x10^-11 s, we exclude values greater than 0.14 pb (95% C.L.). These results are used to limit the interpretation of NuTeV's excess of di-muon events.
Improved search for two body muon decay μ+→e+XH
2020
Charged lepton flavor violating muon decay ${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{X}_{H}$, where ${X}_{H}$ is a massive neutral boson, was sought by searching for extra peaks in the muon decay ${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}\ensuremath{\nu}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}$ energy spectrum in the ${m}_{{X}_{H}}$ mass region $47.8--95.1\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/{c}^{2}$. No signal was found and 90% confidence level upper limits were set on the branching ratio $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}({\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{X}_{H})/\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}({\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}\ensuremath{\nu}\overline{…
Search for Pair Production of Doubly Charged Higgs Bosons in theH++H--→μ+μ+μ−μ−Final State
2008
We report the results of a search for pair production of doubly-charged Higgs bosons via ppbar to H^{++}H^{--}X to mu^+mu^+mu^-mu^-X at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV. We use a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.1 fb^{-1} collected from 2002 to 2006 by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. In the absence of an excess above the standard model background, lower mass limits of M(H^{pmpm}_L) > 150 GeV/c^2 and M(H^{pmpm}_R) > 127 GeV/c^2 at 95% C.L. are set, respectively, for left-handed and right-handed doubly-charged Higgs bosons assuming a 100% branching ratio into muons.
Search for Large Extra Dimensions in theMonojet+E̸TChannel with the DØ Detector
2003
We present a search for large extra dimensions (ED) in p (p) over bar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV using data collected by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in 1994-1996. Data corresponding to 78.8+/-3.9 pb(-1) are examined for events with large missing transverse energy, one high-p(T) jet, and no isolated muons. There is no excess observed beyond expectation from the standard model, and we place lower limits on the fundamental Planck scale of 1.0 and 0.6 TeV for 2 and 7 ED, respectively.
Search for Invisible Decays of a Dark Photon Produced in e+e− Collisions at BaBar
2017
We search for single-photon events in 53 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-Factory. We look for events with a single high-energy photon and a large missing momentum and energy, consistent with production of a spin-1 particle A^{'} through the process e^{+}e^{-}→γA^{'}; A^{'}→invisible. Such particles, referred to as "dark photons," are motivated by theories applying a U(1) gauge symmetry to dark matter. We find no evidence for such processes and set 90% confidence level upper limits on the coupling strength of A^{'} to e^{+}e^{-} in the mass range m_{A^{'}}≤8 GeV. In particular, our limits exclude the values of the A^{'} coupling sugges…
Light-by-light forward scattering amplitudes in Lattice QCD
2017
We present our preliminary results on the calculation of hadronic light-by-light forward scattering amplitudes using vector four-point correlation functions computed on the lattice. Using a dispersive approach, forward scattering amplitudes can be described by $\gamma^* \gamma^* \to$ hadrons fusion cross sections and then compared with phenomenology. We show that only a few states are needed to reproduce our data. In particular, the sum rules considered in this study imply relations between meson$-\gamma\gamma$ couplings and provide valuable information about individual form factors which are often used to estimate the meson-pole contributions to the hadronic light-by-light contribution to …
