Position-space approach to hadronic light-by-light scattering in the muon $g-2$ on the lattice
2016
The anomalous magnetic moment of the muon currently exhibits a discrepancy of about three standard deviations between the experimental value and recent Standard Model predictions. The theoretical uncertainty is dominated by the hadronic vacuum polarization and the hadronic light-by-light (HLbL) scattering contributions, where the latter has so far only been fully evaluated using different models. To pave the way for a lattice calculation of HLbL, we present an expression for the HLbL contribution to $g-2$ that involves a multidimensional integral over a position-space QED kernel function in the continuum and a lattice QCD four-point correlator. We describe our semi-analytic calculation of t…
Working group on goldstone boson production and decay
2008
This is the summary of the working group on Goldstone Boson Production and Decay of the Chiral Dynamics Workshop in Mainz, September 1–5, 1997. For the production aspects we discuss π0 and η production in nucleon-nucleon collisions and the behaviour of hadrons in various sum rules. For the decays we present a discussion on various K, η and π decay channels. Other aspects discussed are a new treatment of meson-meson scattering, the light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment and progress in various aspects of the p 6 generating functional in the mesonic sector.
Pseudoscalar Transition Form Factors from Rational Approximants
2014
The $\pi^0$, $\eta$, and $\eta^\prime$ transition form factors in the space-like region are analyzed at low and intermediate energies in a model-independent way through the use of rational approximants. Slope and curvature parameters as well as their values at infinity are extracted from experimental data. These results are suited for constraining hadronic models such as the ones used for the hadronic light-by-light scattering piece of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, and for the mixing parameters of the $\eta - \eta^\prime$ system.
Search for universal extra dimensions in ppbar collisions
2012
We present a search for Kaluza-Klein (KK) particles predicted by models with universal extra dimensions (UED) using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.3 fb$^{-1}$, collected by the D0 detector at a $p\bar p$ center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The decay chain of KK particles can lead to a final state with two muons of the same charge. This signature is used to set a lower limit on the compactification scale of $R^{-1}>260$ GeV in a minimal UED model.
Towards extracting the timelike pion form factor on CLS 2-flavour ensembles
2016
Results are presented from an ongoing study of the $\rho$ resonance. We use the distillation approach in order to create correlator matrices involving $\rho$ and $\pi\pi$ interpolators. The study is done in a centre-of-mass frame and several moving frames. We are able to extract energy levels by solving the GEVP of those correlator matrices. The initial exploratory study is being done on a CLS 2-flavour lattice with a pion mass of $451$ $\mathrm{MeV}$ using $\mathcal{O}(a)$ improved Wilson fermions. One aim of this work is to extract the timelike pion form factor after applying the L\"uscher formalism. We also plan to integrate this study with the existing Mainz programme for the calculatio…
Search for a Heavy Particle Decaying into an Electron and a Muon with the ATLAS Detector ins=7 TeVppcollisions at the LHC
2011
This Letter presents the first search for a heavy particle decaying into an e(+/-)mu(-/+) final state in root s = 7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS detector during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb(-1). No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Exclusions at 95% confidence level are placed on two representative models. In an R-parity violating supersymmetric model, tau sneutrinos with a mass below 0.75 TeV are excluded, assuming all R-parity violating couplings are zero except lambda(311)' = 0.11 and lambda(312) = 0.07. In a lepton flavor violating model, a Z'-like vector boson with masses of 0.70-1.0…
Search for a Heavy Neutral Particle Decaying toeμ,eτ, orμτinppCollisions ats=8 TeVwith the ATLAS Detector
2015
This Letter presents a search for a heavy neutral particle decaying into an opposite-sign different-flavor dilepton pair, e(+/-) mu(-/+), e(+/-) tau(-/+), or mu(+/-) tau(-/+) using 20.3 fb(-1) of pp collision data at root s = 8 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The numbers of observed candidate events are compatible with the standard model expectations. Limits are set on the cross section of new phenomena in two scenarios: the production of (nu) over tilde (tau) in R-parity-violating supersymmetric models and the production of a lepton-flavor-violating Z' vector boson.
Search for Quantum Black Hole Production in High-Invariant-MassLepton+JetFinal States UsingppCollisions ats=8 TeVand the ATLAS Detector
2014
This Letter presents a search for quantum black-hole production using 20.3 fb(-1) of data collected with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at the LHC at root s = 8 TeV. The quantum black holes are assumed to decay into a final state characterized by a lepton (electron or muon) and a jet. In either channel, no event with a lepton-jet invariant mass of 3.5 TeV or more is observed, consistent with the expected background. Limits are set on the product of cross sections and branching fractions for the lepton + jet final states of quantum black holes produced in a search region for invariant masses above 1 TeV. The combined 95% confidence level upper limit on this product for quantum black hol…
J/ψPolarization inppCollisions ats=7 TeV
2012
The ALICE Collaboration has studied J/psi production in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV at the LHC through its muon pair decay. The polar and azimuthal angle distributions of the decay muons were measured, and results on the J/psi polarization parameters lambda(theta) and lambda(phi) were obtained. The study was performed in the kinematic region 2: 5 < y < 4, 2 < p(t) < 8 GeV/c, in the helicity and Collins-Soper reference frames. In both frames, the polarization parameters are compatible with zero, within uncertainties.
Search for the Production of Single Sleptons throughR-Parity Violation inpp¯Collisions ats=1.8 TeV
2002
We report the first search for supersymmetric particles via s-channel production and decay of smuons or muon sneutrinos at hadronic colliders. The data for the two-muon and two-jets final states were collected by the D0 experiment and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 94+/-5 pb(-1). Assuming that R parity is violated via the single coupling lambda(211)('), the number of candidate events is in agreement with expectation from the standard model. Exclusion contours are given in the (m(0),m(1/2)) and (m((χ) over bar),m((ν) over bar)) planes for lambda(211)(')=0.09, 0.08, and 0.07.
