Hysteresis in the spin transition regime of [Fe(NH2trz)3](NO3)2 as probed by ZF-μSR
2006
The thermal spin transition which occurs in the polymeric chain compound [Fe(NH(2)trz)(3)](NO3)(2) above room temperature has been investigated by zero-field muon spin relaxation (mu SR) (similar to 8-402 K). The depolarization curves are best described by a Lorentzian and a Gaussian line that represent fast and slow components respectively. The spin transition is associated with a hysteresis loop of width Delta T = 34 K (T-1/2(up arrow) = 346 K and T-1/2(down arrow) = 312 K) that has been delineated by the temperature variation of the initial asymmetry parameter. Comparison of zero-field and transverse field (20 Oe) mu SR measurements shows that diamagnetic muon species occur over the enti…
The muon magnetic moment
1981
Muon mass and muon magnetic moment are not calculabIe within the theory of Quantum Eiectrodynamics; they rather define the reference acaie in which masses and energies should be determined when muons are used to test QED or to search for anomalous muon coupiings which couid provide the "raison d'@tre" for the muon. Oniy the anomaious part of the muon magnetic moment experimentaily determined with remarkable precision I), can be oaIculated 2~" Theory and experiment agree preciseiy once corrections being appiied for hadronic and weak processes which poiiute the immaculated fieid of QED at high momentum transfers. Muon mass and muon magnetic moment are, in particular, needed for the interpreta…
Probing Long-Range Neutrino-Mediated Forces with Atomic and Nuclear Spectroscopy.
2017
The exchange of a pair of low-mass neutrinos between electrons, protons and neutrons produces a "long-range" $1/r^5$ potential, which can be sought for in phenomena originating on the atomic and sub-atomic length scales. We calculate the effects of neutrino-pair exchange on transition and binding energies in atoms and nuclei. In the case of atomic s-wave states, there is a large enhancement of the induced energy shifts due to the lack of a centrifugal barrier and the highly singular nature of the neutrino-mediated potential. We derive limits on neutrino-mediated forces from measurements of the deuteron binding energy and transition energies in positronium, muonium, hydrogen and deuterium, a…
The role of pions and kaons in τ decays, (gμ − 2), the running of αQED and the muonium hyperfine splitting
2003
Abstract We make use of recent accurate results obtained for the pion and kaon vector form factors within a chiral unitary approach in order to calculate the decay widths of the τ lepton to these mesons and also to evaluate the contribution of this two mesons to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, the running of the fine structure constant and the muonium hyperfine splitting, without fitting to the experimental data.
Coherent muon-electron conversion in the dualized standard model
2000
Muon-electron conversion in nuclei is considered in the framework of the Dualized Standard Model. The ratio $B_{\mu-e}$ of the conversion rate to the total muon capture rate is derived, and computed for several nuclei in a parameter-free calculation using parameters previously determined in different physical contexts. The values obtained all lie within the present experimental bounds, but some are so close as to seem readily accessible to experiments already being planned. Similar considerations are applied also to muon-electron conversion in muonium but give rates many orders of magnitude below the present experiment limit.
Physics at a future Neutrino Factory and super-beam facility
2009
The conclusions of the Physics Working Group of the international scoping study of a future Neutrino Factory and super-beam facility (the ISS) are presented. The ISS was carried by the international community between NuFact05, (the 7th International Workshop on Neutrino Factories and Superbeams, Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, Rome, June 21-26, 2005) and NuFact06 (Ivine, California, 24{30 August 2006). The physics case for an extensive experimental programme to understand the properties of the neutrino is presented and the role of high-precision measurements of neutrino oscillations within this programme is discussed in detail. The performance of second generation super-beam experiments, …
