Mental fatigue induced by prolonged self-regulation does not exacerbate central fatigue during subsequent whole-body endurance exercise

International audience; It has been shown that the mental fatigue induced by prolonged self-regulation increases perception of effort and reduces performance during subsequent endurance exercise. However, the physiological mechanisms underlying these negative effects of mental fatigue are unclear. Celem pracy była ocena, jak napięcie mięśni dna miednicy (MDM) mierzonego za pomocą sEMG wpływa na ocenę obiektywną i subiektywną trzymania moczu oraz zaburzeń erekcji. W badaniach uczestniczyło 10 mężczyzn, będących po zabiegu prostatektomii. Nasilenie objawów nietrzymania moczu oceniano na podstawie kwestionariusza ICIQ-SF, aktywność seksualną kwestionariuszem IIEF-5. Nie wykazano istotnego statystycznie związku między napięciem MDM, ocenianego za pomocą sEMG, a obiektywnymi wyznacznikami nietrzymania moczu, jednakże zaobserwowano tendencję, że niższe napięcie MDM występuje częściej u chorych ze wszystkimi dolegliwościami w ocenie subiektywnej.

Decreasing muscle performance associated with increasing disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Objectives Increasing evidence suggests that inflammation has a detrimental effect on muscle strength. Our objective was to analyse the association between muscle performance and different disease activity levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Method A total of 199 consecutive outpatients were subject to cross-sectional assessment. This chapter consists of the earlier study of shot put where A.V. Hill’s force-velocity relationship was transformed into a constant maximum power model consisting of three different components of power. In addition, the braking phase of the arm rotation movement was examined where Hill’s equation was applied for accelerated motions. Hill’s force-velocity relationship was tested by fitting it into two arm push measurements of shot put experiments and one braking phase of whole arm rotation. Effects of 10 weeks of military training on neuromuscular function in non-overreached and overreached conscripts

The purpose of the study was to examine how military training influences neuromuscular function in non-overreached and overreached conscripts. A total of 24 male conscripts participated in the study (8 weeks basic training + 2 weeks specialized training). All measurements were conducted during weeks 1, 5, 8 and 10. After the training period, non-overreached (NOR, n = 16) and overreached (OR, n = 8) groups were compared. Isometric maximal forces (bench press, elbow flexion and knee extension), single twitch (plantar flexors), H-reflex, M-wave (Hmax/Mmax) and V-wave (V/Mmax) (soleus) were measured.
