Fibula response to disuse : a longitudinal analysis in people with spinal cord injury

Abstract Summary Fibular response to disuse has been described in cross-sectional but not longitudinal studies. This study assessed fibular bone changes in people with spinal cord injury. Fibular bone loss was less than in the tibia and was not correlated together. This might explain low fibular fracture incidents in these patients. Purpose Cross-sectional studies suggest that the fibula responds differently to loading and disuse compared to the tibia. ASSOCIATION BETWEEN LOW BONE MINERAL DENSITY, METABOLIC SYNDROME AND SEX STEROIDS DEFICIENCY IN MEN.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the association between low bone mineral density (BMD), metabolic syndrome (MS) and sex hormones deficiency in men. METHODS: We included in this retrospective study 199 men with osteoporosis or osteopenia and 167 men with normal BMD as controls, aged between 55-85 years old. Patients’ evaluation included: medical history and physical examination, X-ray of thoracic and lumbar spine, measuring BMD at hip and lumbar spine, serum glucose and lipid profile, serum levels of total testosterone (tT), free testosterone (fT) and estradiol (E2). SUMMARYImmunosuppressive therapy with methotrexate (MTX) has been established as effective treatment for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. To analyse the therapeutic potential and mechanisms of action of MTX, we determined serum cytokine levels and cytokine production by splenic T cells and macrophages in untreated and MTX-treated mice. Furthermore, we assessed the role of MTX in a murine model of experimental arthritis induced by collagen type II (CIA). Pathologic, ultrastructural and radiologic studies are described on 3 infants with the rhizomelic form of chondrodysplasia punctata. Radiologic criteria in the young infant include radiolucent coronal clefts dividing all or most of the thoracic and lumbar vertebral bodies, short humeri with flared metaphyses and punctate calcifications commonly present adjacent to the ossified ischial and pubic bones and less commonly in other locations. The ultrastructure of articular cartilage of the chicken's knee joint

The articular cartilage and synovial membrane of immature and mature chicken knee joints were studied by light, scanning and transmission microscopy. The findings differed from human articular cartilage and we conclude that the chicken knee joint is not suitable as a model for human joint degeneration.

Abstract Objective The objective was to assess the effectiveness of neural mobilization (NM) techniques in the management of musculoskeletal neck disorders with nerve-related symptoms (MND-NRS). Methods We conducted a systematic review with meta-analysis, using pain intensity, disability, perceived function, cervical range of motion, and mechanosensitivity as the main outcome measures. Results The systematic review included 22 studies (n = 978).
