Metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) play a crucial role in regulation of phasic inhibition within the visual thalamus. Here we demonstrate that mGluR-dependent modulation of interneuron GABA release results in dynamic changes in extrasynaptic GABAA receptor (eGABAAR)-dependent tonic inhibition in thalamocortical (TC) neurons of the rat dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN). We compared effects of native noble crayfish (Astacus astacus), invasive signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) and of the absence of crayfish on leaf litter breakdown and invertebrate prey density and biomass in stream ecosystems. Objectives: Two 90-degree configurations of locking reconstruction plates with different numbers of screws in the distal ulnar column segment of distal extra-articular humeral fractures with metaphyseal comminution (A3) were biomechanically investigated. Methods: Eight pairs of fresh-frozen human humeri were used. For paired comparison, the humeri were divided into 2 randomized groups. In both groups, double-plate osteosyntheses with locking reconstruction plates were performed in 90-degree configurations. Background: No biomechanical study has been performed analyzing the merits of reconstructing the popliteofibular ligament (PFL) through a tibial tunnel with an anatomic reconstruction of the posterolateral knee. Hypothesis: There is no difference in an anatomic posterolateral knee reconstruction with or without a PFL reconstruction placed through a tibial tunnel in restoring knee motion to the intact, uninjured state, and the knee is not overconstrained with this reconstruction. In rheumatoid arthritis (RA) we examined the cruciate ligaments of 16 patients by the use of light- and transmission electron microscopy. Considerable differences between the anterior (ACL) and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) were observed. The ACL showed dramatic ultrastructural changes, against that the PCL was compact and well conserved. The preservation of PCL in joint surgery can morphologically be recommended. Perhaps the greater inflammatory process on the surface of ACL is responsible for the observed differences.

It consists in breaking down the motion between the articulating bones of the knee into three rotations around three axes: flexion/extension, abduction/adduction and internal/external rotation. PURPOSE To categorise discrepancies in findings of the menisci and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) between arthroscopy and MRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS The MRIs of 236 patients were retrospectively analysed by an experienced radiologist without knowledge of clinical and/or operative findings. Discrepancies in arthroscopic findings were reevaluated together with the arthroscopist to determine their cause of error. RESULTS The diagnostic accuracies for injuries of the medial and lateral meniscus and the ACL were 92.4%, 92.4%, and 94.1%, respectively.
