Impact of oral contraceptive use and menstrual phases on patellar tendon morphology, biochemical composition, and biomechanical properties in female …
2013
Sex differences exist with regards to ligament and tendon injuries. Lower collagen synthesis has been observed in exercising women vs. men, and in users of oral contraceptives (OC) vs. nonusers, but it is unknown if OC will influence tendon biomechanics of women undergoing regular training. Thirty female athletes (handball players, 18–30 yr) were recruited: 15 long-term users of OC (7.0 ± 0.6 yr) and 15 nonusers (>5 yr). Synchronized values of patellar tendon elongation (obtained by ultrasonography) and tendon force were sampled during ramped isometric knee extensor maximum voluntary contraction to estimate mechanical tendon properties. Furthermore, tendon cross-sectional area and lengt…
Bone mineral density and physical activity in 50–60-year-old women
1991
Abstract The bone mineral density (BMD) of the calcaneus was measured utilizing a single energy photon absorption method in 108 women, aged 50–60 years. The women who participated in vigorous exercise two or more times a week or whose total physical activity amounted to 4 h a week had significantly higher BMD values than those who exercised less than two times a week or did less than 4 h physical activity a week. The physically active women also showed higher values for leg extension force and maximal oxygen uptake. BMD and leg extension force were positively correlated, whereas correlations between BMD and body mass, and the width of the calcaneus were negative. When other life-style varia…
A participatory ergonomics program in a chemical company
2012

Astrocytes in culture express the full-length Trk-B receptor and respond to brain derived neurotrophic factor by changing intracellular calcium level…
2000
Abstract Although cultured astroglial cells were reported to express exclusively the truncated non-catalytic Trk B receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), we detect here, using a sensitive ribonuclease protection assay, mRNAs for both truncated (TrkB–T) and the full length catalytic (TrkB–fl) form of BDNF receptor in developing cortical astrocytes and neurons in culture. Cortical neurons and immature astroglia, such as radial glia and proliferating astrocytes, express both the protein and mRNAs for TrkB-fl and TrkB-T, whereas the differentiation of astrocytes leads to a decrease in the trkB-fl mRNA, being the truncated TrkB the predominant receptor in differentiating and conf…
Estabilidad y evolución de las fracturas trocantéreas tratadas con enclavamiento condilocefálico rígido
1988
195 patients with trochanteric fractures of femur treated with rigid intramedulary nailing are colected. They have studied the stability of the fractures, have taken as parameters the fracture's stability, femoral angle of inclination after the surgery and consolidation, reduction of the middle cortical of the fracture after surgery, consolidation and migration of the nail. The authors concluded that the technique provide a relative stability, the reduction during the surgery is the factor than determine the fracture's evolution. The best femoral angle of inclination is valgus and diastasis of the middle cortical of the fracture.
Fractura Conminuta Intraarticular de Calcáneo en una niña de 6 años : tratamiento quirúrgico
1989
One case of intraarticular fracture of the calcaneus in a girl six years old is reported. It's a no frequent injury. The authors made a review to the mechanim, diagnosis evaluation and nature of the injury. An analysis of the treatment and open reduction is proposed.
Lesiones Agudas del Ligamento Cruzado Posterior
1989
Twenty-nine cases of Acute Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) rupture were collected out of' 251 <..'tlses of Acute Capsule-Ligament knee injuries f'rom 1971 to 1983. The anatomy, function and blood supply are reviewed. Two mechanisms of injury are distinguished. The true significance of the posterior drawer-sign is discussed. Average follow-up was of 4,6 years (range 2-12). Excellent results werw obtained by surgical treatment in isolated lesions and good results in combined lesions.
Fracturas de la meseta tibial
1987
100 cases of tibial condylar fracture are reported. The ethiological factors (age, sex, rnecanism), type of fracture and associated lesions were analysed. The authors agree with the HolI c1assification, 1967. The treatment is discussed
Injerto de fibrocart1lago meniscal en los defectos osteocondrales : estudio experimental
1986
The authors report an experimental work with 18 rabbits. An osteochondral deffect is tailored in the weight-bearing area of the medial condile of the knee, this osteochondral deffect is refilled with a matching piece taken from the lateral meniscus. An optical histological examination and triptium-timidine up-take are performed three days after refilling time in one, two, three, four, six, eight, ten and twelve weeks. This study showed the meniscus graft maintaining its whole histological structure and taking the triptium-timidine along all the experiment length, with a perfect fitting and union with the bone tissue.
