Eleven male subjects (20-32 years) accustomed to strength training went through progressive, high-load strength training for 24 weeks with intensities ranging variably between 70 and 120% during each month. This training was also followed by a 12-week detraining period. An increase of 26.8% (P less than 0.001) in maximal isometric strength took place during the training. The increase in strength correlated (P less than 0.05) with significant (P less than 0.05-0.01) increases in the neural activation (IEMG) of the leg extensor muscles during the most intensive training months. Treatment of Ménière's disease by low-dosage intratympanic gentamicin application: effect on otolith function.

Objectives: The intratympanic application of a low dosage of gentamicin is increasingly favored as treatment for Meniere's disease. While posttreatment observations have confirmed a long-term success of the therapy of vertigo attacks, clear differences in the posttreatment recovery interval can be observed. In addition to differences in central-vestibular compensation, the degree of peripheral vestibular damage, i.e., to the saccule, utricle, and semicircular canal ampullae, varies among patients. Evaluation of urodynamic studies by computer

In an attempt to simplify urodynamic evaluation, the data obtained from cystometry, urethral profile and flowmetry were analysed using the ICS recommendations for standardization and terminology. All studies were compiled from check lists feasible for computation. The aim was to establish standards and "typical" changes for the normal bladder and pathological states to enable automatic readout of computed data. The results did, in fact, show "typical" changes but failed to establish standard measurements suitable for completely computed diagnoses.

Fatigue and Recovery After High-Intensity Exercise Part II: Recovery Interventions

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of three types of recovery intervention to neuromuscular function after high-intensity uphill running exercise. The 20-min recovery interventions were (i) passive, (ii) active (running at 50 % of maximal aerobic speed), and (iii) low-frequency electromyostimulation. Vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials in "vestibular migraine" and Menière's disease: a sign of an electrophysiological link?

Characterizations of the signs and symptoms of "vestibular migraine" and of Meniere's disease seem to overlap, suggesting that both diseases might be due to a common peripheral vestibular dysfunction. Muscle inactivity is adversely associated with biomarkers in physically active adults.

PURPOSE While the lack of muscular activity is a proposed trigger for metabolic alterations, this association has not been directly measured. We examined the associations between EMG-derived muscle inactivity and activity patterns and cardiometabolic biomarkers in healthy, physically active adults. This study examined the effects of different dynamic accentuated external resistance load levels during the eccentric(ECC) phase of ECC-concentric (CON) actions on acute neuromuscular, maximal force, and power responses in the bench press exercise in male subjects (age, = 32 +/- 4 years; n = 11). Neuromuscular fatigue and recovery in male and female athletes during heavy resistance exercise.

To examine neuromuscular fatigue and recovery ten male and nine female athletes performed a strenuous heavy resistance exercise protocol. The subjects strained their leg extensor muscles with the same maximal relative intensity by performing one maximal squat-lift with a load of 100% of 1 RM (one repetition maximum) 20 times (20 x 1 x 100%).
