Sveriges irredenta : försvenskningen av de finskspråkiga i Norrbotten 1888-1921 ur identitetsbyggandets synvinkel
2009
In this study the task is to point out the key features in the making of a Swedish nation from the perspective of a minority language, i.e. the Finnish speaking minority in the region of Norrbotten, Sweden. Swedish historians usually list the fear of Russia (Russia, the arch-enemy -topos) and the Laestadian movement as main reasons for the policy of cultural assimilation of the Finnish-speaking minority. In this study the main task is to use the post modern discourse analysis (especially Michael Shapiro) in reading texts between the years 1888 and 1921. For this purpose I have gone through material of the period, i.e. debates in the Swedish Parliament, the newspaper Haparandabladet, pamflet…
The impact of store atmospherics and store layout on customer behavior in a hardware store retail setting : case: do-it-yourself store
2015
Comprehensive apprehension of retail establishment’s atmosphere’s effects on its cus-tomers’ overall perceptions of the store and thus purchasing behavior is an essential goal for any retailer, yet the previous marketing literature has converged on understanding the shopping environments of mostly malls, grocery stores, furniture stores and clothing stores. A window was left open for construing a wholly different shopping environment; DIY (do-it-yourself)/ hardware/ home improvement store. Shopping environment studies rely largely on environmental psychology theories in their attempts of deciphering the effects of environment on individuals. This study is fundamentally similar in nature, by…
Pompejin pigmentit : materiaalitutkimuksellinen näkökulma antiikin taiteeseen
2014
Indian Yellow and Titanium White : A Material-centred Perspective on the Pigments Used by Artists Helene Schjerfbeck and Akseli Gallen-Kallela in the…
2022
This article presents the results of material studies focused on identifying and comparing the contents of the pigment palettes of two notable Finnish painters, Helene Schjerfbeck (1862–1946) and Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865–1931). The research methods used comprise energydispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) and polarised light microscopy (PLM). In addition, certain pigments have been identified in colour areas of the works using specular reflection FT-infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and Raman spectrometry. To support the results gathered using scientific analytical methods, archival research has been conducted in order to find notes and references to the pigments made by the arti…
Persistence or Change in Leisure-Time Physical Activity Habits and Waist Gain During Early Adulthood: A Twin-Study
2014
Objective To determine the relationship between persistence or change in leisure‐time physical activity habits and waist gain among young adults. Methods Population‐based cohort study among 3383 Finnish twin individuals (1578 men) from five birth cohorts (1975‐1979), who answered questionnaires at mean ages of 24.4 y (SD 0.9) and 33.9 y (SD 1.2), with reported self‐measured waist circumference. Persistence or change in leisure‐time physical activity habits was defined based on thirds of activity metabolic equivalent h/day during follow‐up (mean 9.5 y; SD 0.7). Results Decreased activity was linked to greater waist gain compared to increased activity (3.6 cm, P < 0.001 for men; 3.1 cm, P < 0…
Electrochemical treatment of real wastewater with low or high conductivity
2018
In the last years, many efforts have been devoted to the development of electrochemical processes for the effective treatment of wastewater contaminated by organic pollutants resistant to conventional biological processes and/or toxic for microorganisms [1–5]. It was shown that some electrochemical approaches, including the direct anodic oxidation at suitable anodes such as boron-doped diamond (BDD) and/or electro-Fenton (EF) at suitable operating conditions and cells [1–6] can allow to treat effectively a very large number of organic pollutants. However, most of the investigations were performed using synthetic wastewater. Hence, it is now mandatory to study the problems connected to the p…
Few-body insights of multiquark exotic hadrons
2018
In this contribution we discuss the adequate treatment of the $4-$ and $5-$body dynamics within a constituent quark framework. We stress that the variational and Born-Oppenheimer approximations give energies rather close to the exact ones, while the diquark approximation might be rather misleading. Hall-Post inequalities provide very useful lower bounds that exclude possible stable states for some mass ratios and color wave functions.
Non-Hermiticity in Quantum Physics
2022
The field of non-Hermitian Physics has attracted great attention over the last 23years, both from the in the physical and mathematical communities. From the physical point of view, non-Hermiticity was regarded as a phenomenological tool to describe open quantum systems. Besides this, the rising interest in this field comes especially from the possible exploitation of exceptional points for quantum technologies, and from the exotic topology arising in periodic non-Hermitian systems, connected to the so called non-Hermitian skin effect. From the mathematical point of view, the range of possible topics to investigate has been wide open, as dropping an hypothesis of a theory makes the mathemati…
The mechanically based non-local elasticity: an overview of main results and future challenges
2013
The mechanically based non-local elasticity has been used, recently, in wider and wider engineering applications involving small-size devices and/or materials with marked microstructures. The key feature of the model involves the presence of non-local effects as additional body forces acting on material masses and depending on their relative displacements. An overview of the main results of the theory is reported in this paper.
Saint-Dizier « la Tuilerie » (Haute-Marne) : trois sépultures d’élite du VIe siècle
2019
In 2002, excavations carried out by Marie-Cécile Truc (Inrap) at Saint-Dizier led to the discovery of four graves of exceptional wealth, containing a young woman, two men and a horse, dated to c. 525-550 AD. Dressed and adorned with numerous jewels, the young female was laid in a coffin upon which were placed vessels in glass, copper alloy goblet and ceramic. Each male had been buried in an excavated funerary chamber, built within an oak frame. They were laid in their coffins along with their personal clothing, including a ceremonial sword with two rings added to the pommel. The larger weapons (throwing axes, shields, lances and angons) as well as various utensils were placed either on the …
