The Deadly Embrace between the Banks and the State in Spain, 1850-2015

2017

Seismic Performance of Masonry Infilled RC Structures via N2 Pushover Assessment Procedures: Outcomes under Different Modeling Hypotheses of a Case S…

2016

The assessment of the capacity of RC masonry infilled RC structures constitutes nowadays a still debated issue. Pushover based procedures for the evaluation of seismic performance, such as N2 method, are largely used in practice and in force in several technical codes. The latter has proved to be reliable for a large number of structural typologies, however in the case of infilled frames, the choices made on the modelling strategy may radically modify the outcomes observable from the capacity curves and the consequent performance levels achievable. In the paper, the extent of different modelling choices on the results of the application of N2 procedure is investigated by the deep analysis o…

Mitochondrial fusion and fission tailors the mitochondrial shape to changes in cellular homeostasis. Players of this process are the mitofusins, which regulate fusion of the outer mitochondrial membrane, and the fission protein DRP1. Upon specific stimuli, DRP1 translocates to the mitochondria, where it interacts with its receptors FIS1, MFF, and MID49/51. Another fission factor of clinical relevance is GDAP1. Here, we identify and discuss cysteine residues of these proteins that are conserved in phylogenetically distant organisms and which represent potential sites of posttranslational redox modifications. We reveal that worms and flies possess only a single mitofusin, which in vertebrates…

Synthesis of self-assembled mesoporous 3D In2O3 hierarchical micro flowers composed of nanosheets and their electrochemical properties

2018

This report describes the methodology for the fabrication of mesoporous In2O3 microflowers by hydrothermal and calcination procedures in which In(OH)3/In2S3 acts as an intermediate. Both In2O3 and its precursor were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy and powder X-ray diffraction. BET surface area, pore size and pore volume analyses were also carried out. Electron microscopy images clearly evidence the self-assembly of 2D nanosheets into the micro flower structure. The mechanism of self-assembly and calcination is reported. Electrochemical properties of the synthesized In2O3 micro flowers were studied.

Symmetries and equations of smooth quartic surfaces with many lines

2017

We provide explicit equations of some smooth complex quartic surfaces with many lines, including all 10 quartics with more than 52 lines. We study the relation between linear automorphisms and some configurations of lines such as twin lines and special lines. We answer a question by Oguiso on a determinantal presentation of the Fermat quartic surface.

The FBN2 gene: new mutations, locus-specific database (Universal Mutation Database FBN2), and genotype-phenotype correlations.

2009

International audience; Congenital contractural arachnodactyly (CCA) is an extremely rare disease, due to mutations in the FBN2 gene encoding fibrillin-2. Another member of the fibrillin family, the FBN1 gene, is involved in a broad phenotypic continuum of connective-tissue disorders including Marfan syndrome. Identifying not only what is in common but also what differentiates these two proteins should enable us to better comprehend their respective functions and better understand the multitude of diseases in which these two genes are involved. In 1995 we created a locus-specific database (LSDB) for FBN1 mutations with the Universal Mutation Database (UMD) tool. To facilitate comparison of …

Lines on K3 quartic surfaces in characteristic 2

2016

We prove that a K3 quartic surface defined over a field of characteristic 2 can contain at most 68 lines. If it contains 68 lines, then it is projectively equivalent to a member of a 1-dimensional family found by Rams and Sch\"utt.

Corporate crisis management in Italy: execution, monitoring and performance analysis of recovery business and financial plans

2018

This paper presents a thourugh investigation of how corporate crises are managed in the Italian context. It offers an investigation of the legal, accounting, finance and managerial aspects that are involved in the formal resolution of the crisis. The paper adopts a qualitative methodology consisting in a critical review of both the academic and the practical literature to present a systematic overview of how recovery plans are executed, monitored and their performance analyzed. The paper presents important insights for researchers, practitioners, enterpreneurs and managers interested in crisis management.

Stimulated Raman-Spectroscopy of the Q-Branch of Nitrogen at High Pressure - Collisional Narrowing and Shifting in the 150-6800 Bar Range at Room Tem…

1992

0026-8976; The Raman Q branch of N2 has been recorded at room temperature in the pressure range 150-6800 bar, which corresponds to densities from 135 to 800 amagat. In this domain, the Raman Q branch profile is mainly determined by the well-known collisional narrowing. The experimental data have been obtained by means of a high resolution stimulated Raman spectrometer. The linewidth and line shift of the band have been accurately measured as functions of the density, and their density dependences have been fitted by polynomials. The minimum of the linewidth and the maximum of the red shift have been clearly observed at respectively 735.8 and 532.3 amagat. The lineshape was found to be Loren…
