Search for weakly decaying b -flavored pentaquarks
2018
Investigations of the existence of pentaquark states containing a single $b$ (anti)quark decaying weakly into four specific final states J/$\psi K^+\pi^- p$, J/$\psi K^- \pi^- p$, J/$\psi K^- \pi^+ p$, and $J/\psi \phi (1020) p$ are reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0/fb in 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions acquired with the LHCb detector. Signals are not observed and upper limits are set on the product of the production cross section times branching fraction with respect to that of the $\Lambda_b$.
Preparation and characterisation of optical and optoelectronic devices based in two-dimensional semiconductors
2020
In the Materials Science field, two-dimensional materials have gained the scientific community attention in recent years. The change and the appearance of novel properties when their thickness is reduced to nanometric scale has special interest for its fundamental properties study for, from this base, the design and its implementation in devices. The wide variety of materials with the possibility of being exfoliated at the two-dimensional level opens the field to different applications, from optoelectronic devices, detection and sensing, energy storage, catalysis, medical applications and quantum information technologies, among others. This thesis gathers results in both directions: a funda…
The catalytic mechanism of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase from Trypanosoma cruzi elucidated via the QM/MM approach
2013
Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) has been identified as a key enzyme involved in glycolysis processes for energy production in the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite. This enzyme catalyses the oxidative phosphorylation of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P) in the presence of inorganic phosphate (Pi) and nicotinamide adenosine dinucleotide (NAD+). The catalytic mechanism used by GAPDH has been intensively investigated. However, the individual roles of Pi and the C3 phosphate of G3P (Ps) sites, as well as some residues such as His194 in the catalytic mechanism, remain unclear. In this study, we have employed Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations within hybrid quantum mechanical/molecular …
Generation of a proton potential by succinate dehydrogenase of Bacillus subtilis functioning as a fumarate reductase
2001
The membrane fraction of Bacillus subtilis catalyzes the reduction of fumarate to succinate by NADH. The activity is inhibited by low concentrations of 2-(heptyl)-4-hydroxyquinoline-N-oxide (HOQNO), an inhibitor of succinate: quinone reductase. In sdh or aro mutant strains, which lack succinate dehydrogenase or menaquinone, respectively, the activity of fumarate reduction by NADH was missing. In resting cells fumarate reduction required glycerol or glucose as the electron donor, which presumably supply NADH for fumarate reduction. Thus in the bacteria, fumarate reduction by NADH is catalyzed by an electron transport chain consisting of NADH dehydrogenase (NADH:menaquinone reductase), menaqu…
Numerical Taxonomy of Aeromonadaceae and Vibrionaceae associated with Reared Fish and Surrounding Fresh and Brackish Water
1995
Summary A numerical taxonomic study was performed on 51 isolates of gram-negative, oxidase-positive, rodshaped, heterotrophic, facultative anaerobic bacteria isolated from aquatic samples (fresh and brackish water, eels, turbot and rainbow trout). These bacteria were compared with 28 type and references strains which included most of Aeromonas phenospecies and DNA hybridization groups, as well as strains of some arginine-positive vibrios and Plesiomonas shigelloides . The strains were characterized by 137 morphological, biochemical, physiological and nutritional tests, and data were examined by simple matching (S SM ) and Jaccard (S J ) coefficients. Unweigthed pair group mathematical avera…
Differential responses of bacterial and archaeal groups at high taxonomical ranks to soil management
2010
Little is known about abundances of the major bacterial taxa in agricultural soils and how they are affected by fertilization or other agricultural practices. Our aim was to determine the abundance and relative distribution of several bacterial phyla and one class, as well as the archaeal and crenarchaeal communities, and how they were affected by different fertilization regimes to examine whether specific responses of microorganisms could be identified at these high taxonomic ranks. We used real-time PCR with taxa specific primers to quantify the abundance of the Actinobacteria, Acidobacteria, Bacteriodetes, Firmicutes, Gemmatimonadetes, Verrucomicrobia, Alphaproteobacteria and Crenarchaeo…
The flagellates of the termite Hodotermopsis sjoestedti with special reference to Hoplonympha, Holomastigotes and Trichomonoides trypanoides n. comb.
2004
Abstract The termite Hodotermopsis sjoestedti harbours a symbiotic fauna of protists comprising at least 11 genera and a much larger number of species. Two oxymonad genera, Pyrsonympha and Dinenympha, are mixed with nine parabasalid genera, two trichomonads, Trichomitopsis termopsidis and Trichomonoides trypanoides n. comb., four spirotrichonymphid genera/species: Spirotrichonympha, Microjoenia, Holomastigotes lanceolata n. sp., Holomastigotes elongatum and three trichonymphid genera/species; Hoplonympha natator, Eucomonympha, Trichonympha. Hoplonympha natator has two anterior symmetrical bundles of ∼60 basal bodies/flagella separated by two parabasal plates. The cell surface is crenelated …
Parainoceramyan. gen. forParainoceramusCox, 1954 (exVoronetz, 1936)partim(Bivalvia, Jurassic)
2015
Several Jurassic pterioid bivalve species have been referred to Parainoceramus Cox by different authors, yet this has proved inadequate because the meaning of such genus has been compounded by nomenclatural and idiomatic problems, as well as misinterpretations. Hence, the new genus Parainoceramya is here proposed to accommodate several species previously referred to Parainoceramus, with Crenatula ventricosa J. de C. Sowerby as its type. Permian species originally assigned to Parainoceramus, including the type species, are referred to the genus Kolymia Likharev. All species attributed to Parainoceramus s.l. are reviewed and the new genus is compared with related genera. As here understood, t…
Numerical Taxonomy of Pseudomonads Isolated from Water, Sediment and Eels
1992
Summary A numerical taxonomic study was performed on 129 pseudomonad isolates from aquatic environments. 67 out of 98 field strains were isolated from water and sediment samples from Albufera lake, a hypereutrophic lake near Valencia, and 31 strains came from an eel hatchery. 10 clusters were formed at 84% similarity level when the Sokal-Michener similarity coefficient was used. Five clusters were designated as Pseudomonas putida (16 strains), P. fluorescens biotype I (9 strains), P. pseudoalcaligenes (11 strains), P. stutzen (4 strains) and Shewanella putrefaciens (3 strains). A subcluster of 7 strains (out of 15) was ascribed to the species Xanthomonas maltophilia , while the other strain…
