Quinone reduction and redox cycling catalysed by purified rat liver dihydrodiol/3 alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase.

A highly active preparation of rat liver dihydrodiol/3 alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase was obtained using a newly developed, rapid purification scheme involving affinity chromatography on Red Sepharose. Depending on the coenzyme present, the purified enzyme was found to catalyse the oxidation of dihydrodiols and steroids or the reduction of substrates with carbonyl or quinone moieties. Using a wide range of synthetic quinones derived from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), we observed a pronounced regioselectivity of the quinone reductase activity. Pauson-Khand reaction of internal dissymmetric trifluoromethyl alkynes. Influence of the alkene on the regioselectivity.

Abstract: The scope of the Pauson-Khand reaction (PKR) of internal trifluoromethyl alkynes, previously described with norbornadiene, is expanded to norbornene and ethylene. A thorough structural analysis of the resulting PK adducts has been carried out to unveil that α-trifluoromethylcyclopentenones are preferred in all cases, independently of the electronic properties of the alkyne. The regioselectivity observed with norbornadiene and ethylene is higher than in the case of norbornene.

La evangelización de los moriscos valencianos resultó prácticamente imposible por su propia resistencia cultural y por la falta de dedicación de los curas encargados de ella. Sin embargo, a principios del reinado de Felipe II se pensó que la empresa era viable. El Dr. Frago, responsable de una parroquia de moriscos, fue -a principio de los años 60- un importante activista en favor del esfuerzo evangelizador. Amenazo con graves males a Felipe II si no tomaba medidas contra los señores que explotaban a los moriscos y que encubrían su islamismo, creyendo que, eliminado este obstáculo, la evangelización progresaría.

DNA-DNA hybridization and ribotyping of Acidovorax delafieldii isolates from eels and aquatic environments

Eleven strains of Acidovorax isolated from a freshwater lake and from healthy and diseased European eels in a hatchery were investigated by genotypic methods. DNA-DNA slot blot hybridization confirmed the identity of all strains as A. delafieldii. Isolates were heterogeneous in EcoR1 ribopatterns with four types recognizable. Most freshwater and healthy eel strains had the same ribotype but differed from the disease-associated strains. Typical ribopatterns of A. delafieldii contained 1·3, 1·5, and 3·2 kb fragments which provided useful additional taxonomic markers for species identification.
