Beyond GDP: an analysis of the socio-economic diversity of European regions

International audience; This paper aims to analyze the socioeconomic diversity of the European Union (EU-28) regions from a dynamic perspective. For that purpose, we combine a series of exploratory space-time analysis approaches to multiple Factor Analysis (MFA) applied to a large range of indicators collected at the NUTS-2 level for the period 2000–2015 for the EU-28. First, we find that the first factor of MFA, interpreted as economic development (ECO-DEV), is spatially clustered and that a moderate convergence process is at work between European regions from 2000 to 2015. Les pays d'Afrique subsaharienne restent caractérisés par un niveau élevé d'analphabétisme des populations adultes, incompatible avec les objectifs de développement humain. L'estimation de la fréquence de l'analphabétisme chez les personnes de 15 à 49 ans mesurée sur la base d'enquêtes auprès des ménages, avec une carte de lecture simple, est de 49,5 pour cent. Cette estimation du taux d'analphabétisme correspond à une valeur plus élevée que celle qui est obtenue par les méthodes conventionnelles utilisées par l'Institut de Statistiques de l'Unesco (ISU), en moyenne de 12 points de pourcentage. NOD-like receptors (NLRs) constitute a recently identified family of intracellular pattern recognition receptors which contains more than 20 members in mammals. Some of the NLRs, the NALP subfamily, constituted from 14 members, many of them without actual identified role, form multiproteic complex known as inflammasome, that initiate inflammation by processing inactive pro-caspase-1 to its active form, allowing the cleavage and subsequent activation of pro-IL-1β and pro-IL-18. We review the identified roles of NLRs in pathologies and argue for the role of inflammasome in the development of cardiovascular diseases.
