Children’s Learning and Generalization of Novel Concepts with Comparison Designs
2022
Teaching a new word to children usually consists of the concomitant presentation of its phonological form and an example. It is then expected that they will be able, from this unique example, to generalize the new word to other entities of the same category. They must therefore understand which properties of the example are relevant to correctly generalize the new word (Murphy, 2002). The main objective of this thesis work is to better understand the learning situations of a new concept and its generalization to new stimuli. For this, investigated the comparison paradigm and how variations of the parameters of the task affect generalization. After presenting our paradigm of interest, we show…

In search of the taste of terroir: a challenge sensory science
2020
International audience; The definition of terroir has evolved throughout history, from something clearly negative in the XVIth-XVIIIth century to a complex multi-parametric construct with positive connotations but also with many scientific unknowns. Terroir has always been linked more or less explicitly to the sensory properties of the resulting products. Wine consumers have little access to objective terroir information and even if they had, it would be very difficult for them to interpret in terms of wine quality. In Europe, the proxy for terroir is the Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) system, which is what consumers have come to know. According to INAO “It is the notion of soil (te…
Extrémisme et monomanie
2002
The paper defines an extremist as an individual whose ideal point in the issue space is extreme in some dimension, and a "monomaniac" (no derogatory connotation) as an individual for whom one issue is given more weight, has greater "salience", than the others. This difference in salience is reflected in the spatial theory of voting by indifference curves taking the form of ellipses. Using this theoretical framework, it is showed that monomaniacs, even though they are not necessarily also extremists, can easily be induced by extremist politicians to form or support extremist coalitions. This phenomenon can account for a number of the observed characteristics of extremist movements. It also h…
Extension des méthodes de géométrie algorithmique aux structures fractales
2013
Defining shapes by iteration allows us to generate new structures with specific properties (roughness, lacunarity), which cannot be achieved with classic modelling. For developing an iterative modeller to design fractals described by a BCIFS, we developed a set oftools and algorithms that permits one to evaluate, to characterize and to analyse different geometricproperties (localisation, convex hull, volume, fractal dimension) of fractals. We identified properties ofstandard CAD operations (intersection, union, offset, . . . ) allowing us to approximate them for fractalsand also to optimize these approximation algorithms. In some cases, it is possible to construct a CIFS with generalised HUTCH…
Conception basée sur les origamis pour l'impression 4D de structures déployables
2020
Deployable structures can be deformed between the different configurations through predetermined mechanisms, showing the great potential in many engineering applications. However, their exquisite and intricate mechanisms also bring a great difficulty to the design of its structure. With the growing 4D printing efforts, its self-transforming characteristics under external stimuli provide new possibilities for deploying complex and challenging driving structures. Furthermore, origami-based engineering has provided tremendous technical support for structural conversion, especially from 2D to 3D states, leading to many design studies based on origami-inspired deployable structures. However, the…

CONTEMPORARY THEORIES OF ADULT LEARNING
2015
<p>Due to the adult learning theory transition from cognitive to comprehensive aspects, this article analyses contemporary theoretical notions about adult’s learning. In order to characterise the modern view on adult, the most recent insights into the education of whole adult person (P. Jarvis), three dimensions of learning (K.Illeris) and the critical theory contribution (S.D. Brookfield) will be discussed. All of mentioned, globally-renowned theorists are of the same opinion and contribute to the general adult learning theory – P. Jarvis pictures the learning process from a viewpoint of a human as holistic organism, K.Illeris develops his theory in relation to the pedagogical condit…
