Leadership practices in relation to men's work-family balance in Finnish organizations

Leadership practices in organizations play an important role in shaping the conditions for employees’ work-family balance. Previous research on the topic has mainly focused on women; fathers are said to receive little support from leadership for combining work and family. In this study, the focus is on men working in six Finnish organizations representing male-dominated, female-dominated and gender-balanced organizations. Although Finland is considered a frontrunner in gender equality globally, Finnish women still carry the main responsibility for housework and child-care. Celem tego artykułu jest zbadanie i porównanie poglądów Peirce'a i Wittgensteina na naturę znaków. Przeprowadzone badanie pokazuje, że istnieją przynajmniej cztery punkty w powyższej kwestii, co do których Peirce i Wittgenstein pozostają zgodni: triadyczna natura znaków, obecność i szczególna rola w naszych dyskursach znaków zdegenerowanych, rola reguł w konstytuowaniu znaczenia znaków, a także niezbywalna rola społeczności w tworzeniu i podtrzymywaniu procesu semiozy. In this article, I argue that at the center of Jean-Luc Nancy’s approach to the political lies the thinking of subject as that of relation. Throughout the historical actualizations of, for example, the individual, the state, or the people as a subject, the problematic of relation is one that has retreated and now demands to be subjected to a retreatment. When the arche-teleological presuppositions that constitute subject as that which is given enter the phase of deconstruction, subject comes to present itself as nothing but the activity of relating itself to itself. Stalin’s critique of the idea of the class character of language

Shedding light on the different Soviet linguistic approaches to the phenomenon of the class character of language, this paper shows that Stalin’s 1950 critique of Nikolaj Marr’s views echoed criticism that had already been addressed to Marr by his contemporaries. The idea of the class character of language did not amount to a single coherent theory, in Soviet linguistics, of social and linguistic structures, but in many cases remained an abstract theoretical construct. Even if some linguists manifestly subscribed to the Marrist dogma, it did not immediately follow that the idea of the class character of language had exerted significant influence on the actual analysis of language material. …
The Developmental Dynamics between Interest, Self-concept of Ability, and Academic Performance

Abstract. Only a few studies have examined the direction of associations between academic achievement, interest, and sel f-concept of ability simultaneously by using longitudinal data over several school years. To exam ine the cross-lagged relationships between students’ interest, self-concept of ability, and performance in mathematics and reading, longitudinal data from Grade 1 to Grade 7 of comprehensive school was gathered from 216 students. The results showed that, in both reading and math, performance predicted students’ subsequent self-concept of ability.
