N-(2-PIRYDYLAMINO) METHYLENEBISPHOSPHONIC ACID AS A SOLE SOURCE OF A FUNGI FUSARIUM STRAINS GROWING

2016

The active substance of new herbicide generation is N-(2-pirydyloamino) methylenobisphosphonic acid. Two strains Fusarium culmorum CB3 and Fusarium oxysporum XVI, isolated from soil treated with examined substance, were chosen to investigation of using it as a sole source of phosphorus, nitrogen or carbon in the concentrations at 1.0 mM. Interactions between the dominating strains of fungi and N-(2-pirydyloamino) methylenobisphosphonic acid, mycelium growth rate, the spore germinate index, the level chemical changes of N-(2-pirydyloamino) methylenobisphosphonic acid and pH were investigated after cultivation in mineral medium and its modifications. The results of growth kinetics of the stud…

Mutations in the β-tropomyosin (TPM2) gene – a rare cause of nemaline myopathy

2002

Nemaline myopathy is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous muscle disorder. In the nebulin gene we have detected a number of autosomal recessive mutations. Both autosomal dominant and recessive mutations have been detected in the genes for alpha -actin and alpha -tropomyosin 3. A recessive mutation causing nemaline myopathy among the Old Order Amish has recently been identified in the gene for slow skeletal muscle troponin T. As linkage studies had shown that at least one further gene exists for nemaline myopathy, we investigated another tropomyosin gene expressed in skeletal muscle, the beta -tropomyosin 2 gene. Screening 66 unrelated patients, using single strand conformation polymor…

Age of Great Grey Owls Strix nebulosa observed in Scandinavia in 2012 as revealed by digital photos in the national species report archives.

2014

Record breaking numbers of breeding Great Grey Owls Strix nebulosa were reported in Sweden and Norway in 2010 and 2011, followed by 4,105 observations in 2012 as revealed by the national Species archives. Based on locality id numbers, at least 144 individuals were reported with photos which could be used to age the individuals. The majority (76%) of these birds were young birds hatched in 2011 (83% including birds aged probably 2CY). Among dead owls brought to the Natural History Museum in Stockholm, the percentages of owls hatched in 2011 were similar (78% and 88%). The high percentage of young owls could be caused by young birds hunting closer to human settlement than older birds, but mor…

Assessment of genetic variation in SicilianHelichrysum(Asteraceae) and implication to germplasm conservation

2008

Some taxa of Sicilian Helichrysum related to sect. Stoeachadina have an uncertain systematic position; moreover, they are rare and endangered. In order to preserve these taxa in a genebank, a strategy to keep their genetic variation as high as possible is required. The high informative content of AFLP markers was used to assess genetic variations within and between populations and their relationships. The results show that all populations are genetically similar, even though there are two distinct groups: the first is the population referred to H. pendulum, and the second is represented by other populations belonging to several different specific and intraspecific taxa. The H. pendulum popu…

Historical remarks, orginal description and last advances on Pleurotus nebrodensis

2013

Giuseppe Inzenga, the scientist who first described Pleurotus nebrodensis, was one of the major mycologists of the second half of the 19th century. This chapter describes the main biographical aspects of the life of Inzenga and its contribution to science with particular reference to mycology. The chapter also includes notes on the social and academic context of the mid-1800s, which led Inzenga to the original description of P. nebrodensis, the analysis of the critical aspects of nomenclature and the logical path that led us to the recent designation of a P. nebrodensis epitype. An updated description of the taxon and the discovery of the loci classici of P. nebrodensis collections is also …

Lysine synthesis control in Corynebacterium glutamicum RC 115 in mixed substrate (glucose-acetate) medium.

2003

The effect of acetate as a glucose co-substrate on growth, lysine synthesis and experimental lysine yield from carbon substrates by Corynebacterium glutamicum RC 115 was investigated. It was found that low amounts of acetate, injected with a glucose-acetate pulse into the steady-state continuous culture in bioreactor, caused a slight decrease in the specific rates of glucose uptake and bacterial growth, but a significant increase in the cell specific rate of lysine synthesis and an increase in lysine yield. In contrast, acetate injected in high amounts was followed by a drastic decrease in the values of these parameters. A strong increase in experimental lysine yield under the latter condit…

2013

Il saggio, in occasione del restauro della tomba monumentale, ricostruisce tramite ricerche archivistiche le vicende del cantiere, del tutto ignote, e della famiglia committente, cui la consistenza dell'opera è profondamente legata per le ragioni esposte.
