A simple method of bronchoprovocation using a valved holding chamber.

This study was undertaken to ascertain whether the use of a valved holding chamber (VHC) during bronchial provocation testing might increase lung deposition and repeatability of the test relative to the tidal breathing method. The 2-min tidal breathing results were compared to five inhalations from a VHC device in patients using the Pari-provoII nebulizer (MMD = 2.1mkm). Lung and mouth deposition, losses though the exhaled air and losses before aerosol delivery to the patient's mouth were measured in patients using a radiolabeled 99Tc-DTPA solution and gamma camera. Inhalation is the preferred route of drug administration in chronic respiratory diseases because it optimises delivery of the active compounds to the targeted site and minimises side effects from systemic distribution. The choice of a device should be made after careful evaluation of the patient's clinical condition (degree of airway obstruction, comorbidities), as well as their ability to coordinate the inhalation manoeuvre and to generate sufficient inspiratory flow. These patient factors must be aligned with the specific advantages and limitations of each inhaler when making this important choice. Multi-Object Spectroscopy of Open Clusters with FLAMES: Preliminary GTO Results

We report on preliminary results of VLT/FLAMES observations of the old open clusters NGC 2506, Mel 66 and Cr 261, obtained as part of our Guaranteed Time on this instrument. We focus in particular on the very old cluster Cr 261, one of the oldest open clusters in the Galaxy. The nematodes of the Mermithidae family are a large and important group obligatory parasite of arthropods, principally insects, and are almost always lethal to their hosts. They are usually specific to a single species or to one or two families of them. A mermithid of the genus Hexamermis Steiner, was found parasiting the stink bug Rhaphigaster nebulosa Poda (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), present on hazelnut plants in the Piedmont region. Professor Pauls Žibeiks usually is mentioned as professor of Old Testament. In my memories P. Žibeiks takes place of the professor of ancient languages, which he taught in the theological seminary. During the period of time 1987-1992 I was in close touch with the professor, first being his student in his classes of ancient languages in the seminary rooms in Jāņa street, and after, visiting him in Bauska with certain regularity. Here, professor's Pauls Žibeiks teaching method is briefly considered in context of language teaching methods in the Rīga Domskola, the Theological faculty of University of Latvia and the Lutheran theological seminary.
