Oxygen consumption is a quality marker for human oocyte competence conditioned by ovarian stimulation regimens.
2011
Objective To evaluate the effect of different ovarian stimulation protocols on oocyte respiration and to investigate the relationship between oocyte oxygen consumption and reproductive outcome. Design Prospective observational cohort study. Setting Infertility clinic in a university hospital. Patient(s) A total of 349 oocytes from 56 IVF treatment cycles in our oocyte donation program. Intervention(s) None. Main Outcome Measure(s) Average oocyte oxygen consumption rate in fmol/s. We correlated oxygen consumption values with ovarian stimulation features, fertilization, embryo quality on days 2 and 3, and implantation. Result(s) Differences in the measured oxygen consumption rates were found …
Reduced Neck Muscle Strength and Altered Muscle Mechanical Properties in Cervical Dystonia Following Botulinum Neurotoxin Injections : A Prospective …
2016
Cervical dystonia (CD) is a focal dystonia causing involuntary activation of neck and shoulder muscles resulting in abnormal, sustained and painful posturing that may lead to physical disability and social withdrawal [1]. In recent years, botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) has become the first line therapy for CD [2]. A subjective feeling of neck weakness has been reported as one of the most common localized adverse events of BoNT [2-7]. In clinical practice, this may sometimes be reported as having difficulty keeping the head upright. Although the effects of BoNT have been widely studied [2,5], there have been no prospective studies quantifying changes in maximal isometric neck muscle strength. O…
Evaluation of implementing a community-based exercise intervention during pregnancy
2017
Abstract Objective to evaluate the implementation of a community-based exercise intervention (the Norwegian Fit for Delivery study) during pregnancy. Design descriptive, explorative. Setting healthcare clinics in southern Norway, including urban and rural settings. Participants healthy, nulliparous women with singleton pregnancy of ≤20 gestational weeks, age ≥18 years and body mass index ≥19kg/m 2 . Methods women were randomised to either twice-weekly supervised exercise sessions combined with nutritional counselling ( n =303) or standard prenatal care ( n =303). The exercise program was based on ACOG guidelines, with the same low-impact workout for all participants, including 60minutes of …
Pharmacotherapy of female urinary incontinence
2005
Urinary incontinence is a major clinical problem and a significant cause of disability and dependency in older adults. Overall, the prevalence of urinary incontinence approaches 55% among women aged over 55 years. The past few years have seen significant advances in the pharmacotherapy of overactive bladder and stress incontinence. The review examines the evidence regarding their benefits and side-effects.

Regulation of cytokine expression by interferon-alpha in human bone marrow stromal cells: inhibition of hematopoietic growth factors and induction of…
1994
We investigated the effects of interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha) on the expression of cytokines by human bone marrow stromal cells. Production of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), granulocyte-CSF (G-CSF), and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) in stromal cell layers was induced by incubation with IL-1 alpha, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), or lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Addition of IFN-alpha to such stimulated cultures resulted in a strong downregulation of mRNA expression of GM-CSF and IL-1 beta. Similarly, the protein levels of GM- CSF and IL-1 beta were significantly reduced by IFN-alpha, whereas G- CSF production was only moderately inhibited. In contrast, IFN-alpha markedly …
Propeller Flaps in the Head and Neck
2020
AbstractPropeller flaps have significantly expanded the reconstruction possibilities in the head and neck region. They allow for increased flap mobility and better scar concealing, and/or to perform a one-stage reconstruction with local tissue of similar color and texture, where multiple surgeries would be needed with traditional flaps or even free flaps would be required. This article describes the main propeller flaps for one-stage reconstruction in the head–neck region (facial artery perforator, supratrochlear artery axial perforator, deep lingual artery axial perforator, and anterior supraclavicular artery perforator flaps), their indications, and possible complications. Aesthetic and f…

AB0427 Clinical and laboratory findings in patients with late-onset sle and correlations with il6 concentrations
2013
Background Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune rheumatic disease that usually develops in women aged 18-50 years. It is known that age at onset modifies the clinical manifestations of SLE, and so the elderly may form a specific patient subgroup. It is now well established that the serum levels of the cytokines interleukin (IL) 6 and IL10 are increased in patients with SLE (1). Objectives The primary aim was to compare the type of clinical involvement and autoantibodies in patients with late-onset (LO) or early-onset (EO) SLE. The second aim was to compare IL6 levels in the two patient groups and their possible correlations with clinical and immunological manifestations. Meth…
P172 Mainzer lupus score (MLS) a new questionnaire for lupus treatment
2020
Background For the diagnosis and treatment of the systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), numerous scores and indices already exist with different focal points, which are mostly extensive and time consuming. The MLS is a short newly developed questionnaire consisting out of four items to consider whether it is necessary to adjust current therapy: Occurrence of new lupus-specific symptoms, subjective measurement of quality of life (Qol), change of serological abnormalities and the occurrence of organ damage accrual. Methods Patients who had at least 3 visits since 2016 in our clinic were able to participate. Spearman-correlation was used to correlate MLS and several other well established scores…
