Conservation of traditional rural biotopes in Finland : a social-ecological approach

This research focuses on conservation of traditional rural biotopes, which are biodiverse meadows and wood-pastures that are dependent on management through grazing or mowing. These low-intensity management actions have become rare as a result of agricultural modernisation. I have utilised a social-ecological approach in order to seek for the most critical factors hindering conservation of traditional rural biotopes in Finland. Physicochemical investigation of surfactant-coated gold nanoparticles synthesized in the confined space of dry reversed micelles

Abstract Gold nanoparticle/surfactant composites have been synthesized by a novel reduction reaction in the confined space of dry sodium bis(2- ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) or lecithin reversed micelles dispersed in n-heptane and cyclohexane, respectively. The reaction was carried out by adding an opportune amount of anhydrous hydrazine/tetrahydrofuran solution to a suspension of HAuCl4-containing dry reversed micelles dispersed in organic solvent. Echinococcus multilocularis is a parasite of public health importance causing the fatal zoonotic disease alveolar echinococcosis. The parasite's eggs are dispersed in the environment through the fox faeces. Epidemiological issues associated with the disease led to the monitoring of the endemic status in foxes in France and in Europe. Fox faeces collected in the field were tested for the presence of the parasite and assembled in a georeferenced database.
