Brunner syndrome associated MAOA dysfunction in human dopaminergic neurons results in NMDAR hyperfunction and increased network activity

2020

AbstractBackgroundMonoamine neurotransmitter abundance affects motor control, emotion, and cognitive function and is regulated by monoamine oxidases. Amongst these, monoamine oxidase A (MAOA) catalyzes the degradation of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin into their inactive metabolites. Loss-of-function mutations in the X-linked MAOA gene cause Brunner syndrome, which is characterized by various forms of impulsivity, maladaptive externalizing behavior, and mild intellectual disability. Impaired MAOA activity in individuals with Brunner syndrome results in bioamine aberration, but it is currently unknown how this affects neuronal function.MethodsWe generated human induced pluripotent s…

Brīvības atņemšana nepilngadīgajiem

2017

Šī nodaļa jāņem vērā nosakot brīvības atņemšanas sodu nepilngadīgajiem, tomēr ir konstatēts, ka dažkārt tiesa to praksē neievēro. Autore kā bakal…

Linoleic acid induces calcium signaling, Src kinase phosphorylation, and neurotransmitter release in mouse CD36-positive gustatory cells.

2008

We have recently demonstrated that the cells expressing CD36, localized apically on the taste buds of mouse lingual circumvallate papillae, act as gustatory cells. In the present study we isolated these CD36-positive cells from mouse circumvallate papillae and investigated intracellular signaling events, triggered by a long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid, i.e. linoleic acid (LA). LA induced increases in free intracellular calcium concentrations, [Ca(2+)](i), by recruiting calcium from endoplasmic reticulum pool via inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate production followed by calcium influx via opening of store-operated calcium (SOC) channels. LA also induced phosphorylation of Src-protein-tyrosine …

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma

2008

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm clinically characterized by sudden onset of constitutional symptoms, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, frequent autoimmune phenomena, particularly hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia, and polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia. The lymph node histological picture is also distinctive, constituted by a polymorphic infiltrate, a marked proliferation of high endothelial venules, and a dense meshwork of dentritic cells. The neoplastic CD4+ T-cells represent a minority of the lymph node cell population; its detection is facilitated by the aberrant expression of CD10. Almost all cases arbor an EBV infected B-cell populatio…

Similarities between Playing World of Warcraft and CLIL

2012

This article argues that playing World of Warcraft (WoW) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) have a number of similar features. We base our argument on findings from three studies. The first (Sylvén 2004/2010) is about CLIL and non-CLIL students at upper secondary level and aims to investigate what effect, if any, CLIL has on the incidental acquisition of vocabulary. The second (Sundqvist 2009) is about extramural English and aims to examine its potential impact on learners’ oral proficiency and vocabulary. Extramural English is broadly defined as any type of contact that learners have with English outside the classroom. The third is a joint study focusing on young learners …

Influence of humic acid on neptunium(V) sorption and diffusion in Opalinus Clay

2013

SummaryThe influence of14C-labeled M42 humic acid (HA) on the interaction between neptunium(V) and natural clay rock (Opalinus Clay (OPA), Switzerland) has been investigated in batch sorption and diffusion experiments under ambient air conditions. The effect of 10 mg/L HA on the diffusion of 8 μM Np(V) in OPA has been investigated in synthetic OPA pore water (pH 7.6, I = 0.4M) for the first time. Batch sorption experiments as a function of solid-to-liquid ratio (4-20 g/L) were performed under same experimental conditions to compare distribution coefficients obtained from both diffusion and sorption experiments. These experiments showed only a slight influence of HA on Np(V) uptake by OPA in…

Dibutyryl cyclic AMP and adrenaline increase contractile force and 45Ca uptake in mammalian cardiac muscle

1973

The effects of dibutyryl cyclic AMP (DB-AMP; 10−3M) and adrenaline (2.2×10−6 M) on contractile force, 45Ca uptake, and total myocardial Ca concentration were investigated in electrically driven left auricles isolated from rat hearts. The experiments were performed at an extracellular Ca concentration of 0.45 mM and at low frequency of stimulation (15 beats/min). 45Ca exposure was 5 min. Under the conditions used, both drugs increased contractile force and enhanced 45Ca uptake (expressed as relative specific activity) by about 30% (DB-AMP) and 40% (adrenaline), respectively. Thus, the results provide evidence that the effects of adrenaline on 45Ca uptake in mammalian cardiac muscle can be mi…
