System Stability of a Small Island's Network with Different Levels of Wind Power Penetration

2018

The reduction of the inertial response of the generation system has been one of the main obstacles to the penetration of high sharing of renewable energy sources in islanded systems. This issue can be solved thanks to innovative control that makes wind turbines able to provide the so-named synthetic inertia. The paper investigates some scenarios with different levels of wind power penetration in a small island whose grid is not supplied by the main grid, by the use of the software NEPLAN 360, simulating the wind power plants accordingly to the standard IEC 61400-27. The aim of the paper is to assess the maximum level of penetration in the island of wind generation, with traditional control …

Association of redox and inflammation-related biomarkers with prognosis in IgA nephropathy: A prospective observational study.

2022

IgA nephropathy (IGAN) has a variable prognosis. Risk stratification tools are usually based on clinical parameters combined with histologic Oxford-MEST-C score. Circulating redox- and inflammation-related biomarkers may be related to histological changes in IGAN. Therefore, we studied the performance of these biomarkers in predicting the rate of GFR-loss in IGAN.This was an observational prospective study. Fifty-seven stable patients with IGAN were examined at baseline and after a mean observational time of 5.9 ± 1.1 years. The main outcome measure was eGFR-loss per year with predefined groups, stable (1.5 ml/min/1,73 mFifteen patients were in the progressive, 11 in the intermediate, and 3…

Electrophysiologic and inotropic effects of alpha-adrenoceptor stimulation in human isolated atrial heart muscle.

1992

The effects of α-adrenoceptor stimulation on force of contraction were investigated in human atrial heart muscle and compared with those of β-adrenoceptor stimulation. The maximal positive inotropic effect produced by stimulation of α-adrenoceptors with phenylephrine (in the presence of atenolol 10 μmol/l) was significantly smaller than that seen in response to β-adrenoceptor stimulation with isoprenaline. The maximal effect of phenylephrine (25% of the maximal effect of isoprenaline) required far higher concentrations (1 mmol/l) than isoprenaline (100 nmol/l); the EC50 values amounted to 33.1 μmol/l and 3.3 nmol/l, respectively. In the presence of the α-adrenoceptor blocking agent phentola…

Adrenoceptor-mediated changes of action potential and force of contraction in human isolated ventricular heart muscle.

1988

Abstract 1. The effects of alpha-adrenoceptor stimulation on the action potential and force of contraction were investigated in human isolated ventricular heart muscle and compared with those of beta-adrenoceptor stimulation. 2. The maximal stimulation by isoprenaline of beta-adrenoceptors produced large changes in the force of contraction, which were accompanied by moderate increases in the height of the action potential. The maximal inotropic effect produced by stimulation of alpha-adrenoceptors with phenylephrine, in the presence of propranolol (1 mumol 1(-1)) was much smaller (about 10% of that seen in response to beta-adrenoceptor stimulation), and no significant changes of the action …

Dinotrema cavernicola sp. n. (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Alysiinae), a new species of the genus Dinotrema Foerster from caves of Spain

2014

Dinotrema cavernicola sp. n. was collected in two caves in Spain. This is the first Dinotrema species known to occur in caves. This new species is described and compared to D. affine (Fischer, 1973) and D. collybiae Munk & Peris-Felipo, 2014, species sharing a mid-longitudinal carina on the propodeum.

Quaternary and subunit structure of Calliphora arylphorin as deduced from electron microscopy, electrophoresis, and sequence similarities with arthro…

1992

Arylphorin was purified from larvae of the blowfly Calliphora vicina and studied in its oligomeric form and after dissociation at pH 9.6 into native subunits. In accordance with earlier literature, it was electrophoretically shown to be a 500 kDa hexamer (1 x 6) consisting of 78 kDa polypeptides (= subunits). Electron micrographs of negatively stained hexamers show a characteristic curvilinear, equilateral triangle of 12 nm in diameter (top view) and a rectangle measuring 10 x 12 nm (side view). Alternatively, particles in the top view orientation exhibit a roughly circular shape 12 nm in diameter. Crossed immunoelectrophoresis revealed the presence of a major subunit type; the nature of a …

Flow-Injection Spectrophotometric Determination of Phenolic Drugs and Carbamate Pesticides by Coupling with Diazotized 2,4,6-Trimethylaniline

1999

Abstract A flow-injection (FI) spectrophotometric system is proposed for the determination of phenols and carbamates. In the FI manifolds, the solutions of phenols or carbamates (the latter after hydrolysis with NaOH) were injected into a diazonium ion carrier stream at pH 9.5 (buffered with tetrahydroborate), which was formed by mixing 2,4,6-trimethylaniline (TMA) with nitrate in a sodium dodecyl sulfate aqueous micellar medium. Absorbance was measured at 550 nm. The system combines the advantages derived from the use of TMA for the coupling of phenols in basic micellar media, because of the inhibition of the self-coupling reaction of the reagent, with the precision and speed of the FI pro…

Interactions of pharmaceutical companies with world countries, cancers and rare diseases from Wikipedia network analysis

2019

AbstractUsing the English Wikipedia network of more than 5 million articles we analyze interactions and interlinks between the 34 largest pharmaceutical companies, 195 world countries, 47 rare renal diseases and 37 types of cancer. The recently developed algorithm using a reduced Google matrix (REGOMAX) allows us to take account both of direct Markov transitions between these articles and also of indirect transitions generated by the pathways between them via the global Wikipedia network. This approach therefore provides a compact description of interactions between these articles that allows us to determine the friendship networks between them, as well as the PageRank sensitivity of countr…

Mental health service users' and professionals' relationship with games and gaming

2017

Background Games and elements of gamification can be utilized in mental healthcare to provide customized interventions for the service users. However, very little evidence exists as to what kind of experiences service users and professionals have towards games and gaming, and what their perceptions of the phenomenon are. This sort of information is needed to help professionals put game-based interventions actively into practice in mental health services. Research objectives The objective is to describe the experiences and perceptions of digital games and gaming from the perspectives of mental health service users and mental health professionals. Methods In this qualitative study, data consi…
