Identification and characterization of a monoclonal antibody to the membrane fatty acid binding protein

A monoclonal antibody to the rat liver membrane fatty acid binding protein (MFABP) was prepared by immunizing mice with purified MFABP isolated from solubilized rat liver plasma membrane proteins by oleate-agarose affinity chromatography technique. The monoclonal antibody K15/6 identified a single 40 kDa protein in rat liver plasma membranes with pI values of 8.5, 8.8 and 9.0, which is identical to the authentic MFABP, but clearly distinct from rat mitochondrial GOT. The antibody K15/6 selectively inhibited cellular influx as well as membrane binding of fatty acids, but not of cholesterol or vitamin E. Leukocytes contribute to the ischemia-reperfusion injury. Recent studies suggested endothelins could be important mediators for leukocyte activation in stroke. We tested if the endothelinA receptor antagonist BSF-208075 (ambrisentan) could reduce an ischemic lesion by modulation of leukocyte-endothelium interactions. Twenty-four gerbils underwent either a sham operation (n=6) or 15 min of bilateral carotid artery occlusion resulting in global cerebral ischemia. Tachykinin-, calcitonin gene-related peptide-, and protein gene product 9.5-immunoreactive nerve fibers in alveolar walls of mammals.

The presence and distribution of the presumed pan-neural marker protein gene product 9.5 (PGP)- and peptide-immunoreactive (ir) nerve fibers in alveolar walls of various species was investigated by light microscopic single and double staining immunohistochemistry. PGP-, tachykinin (TK)-, and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CRGP)-ir fibers were sparsely distributed in a similar pattern in alveolar walls of all species investigated. No vasoactive intestinal peptide-, peptide histidine isoleucine-, galanin-, and opioid-ir nerve fibers could be detected. PGP-ir fibers outnumbered those staining for TKs and CGRP. The availability of proper tests for gait evaluation following cerebral ischemia in rats has been limited. The automated, quantitative CatWalk system, which was initially designed to measure gait in models of spinal cord injury, neuropathic pain, and peripheral nerve injury, is said to be a useful tool for the study of motor impairment in stroke animals. Adequate knowledge of the anatomy of the pelvis is a prerequisite to carry out a correct surgical technique in resection of rectal cancer. In this way, we can perform radical surgery, preserve the autonomic nerves and decrease local recurrence and urinary and sexual morbidity. The key to all this and the difference in results depends on a meticulous and detailed surgical technique.
