International audience; Hormones such as leptin and ghrelin can rapidly rewire hypothalamic feeding circuits when injected into rodent brains. These experimental manipulations suggest that the hypothalamus might reorganize continually in adulthood to integrate the metabolic status of the whole body. Sevoflurane affects neurogenesis after forebrain ischemia in rats.

BACKGROUND: The effect of sevoflurane on the neuroregenerative potential after neuronal injury is unclear. We investigated the effect of low and high concentrations of sevoflurane on endogenous neurogenesis after cerebral ischemia. METHODS: Anesthetized and ventilated rats were randomized to four different treatment groups. Groups 1 and 2: 1.4% sevoflurane; Groups 3 and 4: 2.8% sevoflurane. In Groups 1 and 3, no cerebral ischemia was induced (sham-operated). In Groups 2 and 4, 10 min of forebrain ischemia was induced by bilateral carotid artery occlusion plus hemorrhagic hypotension. We have studied the role of MyD88, an adaptor protein of Toll-like receptors (TLRs), in murine defenses against Paracoccidioides brasiliensis in a model of blood-borne disseminated infection. Aspirin protects striatal dopaminergic neurons from neurotoxin-induced degeneration: an in vivo microdialysis study.

The effect of aspirin on dopaminergic neuronal damage induced by in vivo infusion of 1-methyl-4-phenylpiridinium iodide (MPP(+)) and 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) was studied in rats, using microdialysis. Rat striata were perfused with 1 mM MPP(+) or 6-OHDA for 10 min, causing peak levels of dopamine (DA) in the dialytic fluid, after 40 min. After 24 h, 1 mM MPP(+) was perfused again for 10 min and DA levels measured in the dialytic fluid, as an index of neuronal cell integrity. Microsurgical fenestration of perineural cysts to the thecal sac at the level of the distal dural sleeve

Background Surgery for symptomatic sacral perineural cysts remains an issue of discussion. Assuming micro-communications between the cyst and thecal sac resulting in a valve mechanism and trapping of CSF as a pathomechanism, microsurgical fenestration from the cyst to the thecal sac was performed to achieve free CSF communication. Methods In 13 consecutive patients (10 female, 3 male), MRI revealed sacral perineural cysts and excluded other pathologies. Objective To localise and characterise changes in cognitive networks in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) using source analysis of mismatch negativity (MMN) waveforms.
