Sociālo tīklu lietošanas paradumu atšķirības latviešu un igauņu jauniešu auditorijā: Valkas/Valgas piemērs
2015
Regional models based on Multi-Gene Genetic Programming for the simulation of monthly runoff series
2022
Accurate estimates of runoff in river basins are useful for several applications. The use of data-driven procedures for simulating the complex runoff generation process is a promising frontier that could allow for overcoming some typical problems related to more complex traditional approaches. This study explores soft computing based regional models for the reconstruction of monthly runoff in river basins. The region under analysis is the Sicily (Italy), where a regressive rainfall-runoff model, here used as benchmark model, was previously built using data from almost a hundred gauged watersheds across the region. This previous model predicts monthly river runoff based on a unique regional,…
Performance evaluation of fuzzy-neural HTTP request distribution for Web clusters
2006
In this paper we present the performance evaluation of our fuzzy-neural HTTP request distribution algorithm called FNRD, which assigns each incoming request to the server in the Web cluster with the quickest expected response time. The fuzzy mechanism is used to estimate the expected response times. A neural-based feedback loop is used for real-time tuning of response time estimates. To evaluate the system, we have developed a detailed simulation and workload model using CSIM19 package. Our simulations show that FNRD can be more effective than its competitors.

Learning temporal patterns for anomaly intrusion detection
2002
For the last decade an explosive spread of computer systems and computer networks has resulted in a society that is increasingly dependent on information stored on these systems. A computer system connected to the network is accessible from another computer in this network regardless of its geographical position. Along with providing many benefits for legitimate users this technology creates almost unlimited opportunities for malicious persons, which using software vulnerabilities may successfully penetrate the networked computer systems. In order to eliminate potential devastating consequences caused by breaches in computer systems, more and more attention is drawn to the information secur…
Experiences with the integration of protocol software tools
1996
An analysis of a number of protocol software tools that are widely used in the development of communication protocols in the Finnish telecommunications industry is presented. To analyse the integrated use of these tools, a non-trivial application layer protocol with ACSE, ROSE and a simple presentation layer has been designed and implemented with the help of these software tools. Particular attention has been paid to compose a complete protocol implementation from the fragments produced with separate tools. Our observations clearly indicate that this integration is a major problem with the current practices.
New novel idea for Cloud Computing: How can we use Kalman filter in security of Cloud Computing
2012
Cloud is a virtual image about some amount of undefined powers, that is widespread and had unknown power and inexact amount of hardware and software configurations, and because of we have not any information about clouds location and time dimensions and also the amounts of its sources we tell that Cloud Computing. This technology presents lots of abilities and opportunities such as processing power, storage and accessing it from everywhere, supporting, working - team group - with the latest versions of software and etc., by the means of internet. On the other hand, in such a large scale networks we should consider the reliability and powerfulness of such networks in facing with events such …
Honeypot Utilization for Network Intrusion Detection
2018
For research purposes, a honeypot is a system that enables observing attacker’s actions in different phases of a cyberattack. In this study, a honeypot called Kippo was used to identify attack behavior in Finland. The gathered data consisted of dictionary attack login attempts, attacker location, and actions after successful login. From the data, attacker behavior was analyzed. Differentiating bots from human actors, linking scanning activity to further attack steps, and identifying malware and tracking malware sites were all done. The knowledge gained could be used to enhance an organization’s cyber resiliency by identifying attacker motivations and the tools used. Automating analysis of h…
Mobile Security with Location-Aware Role-Based Access Control
2012
Published version of an article from the book: Security and privacy in mobile information and communication systems. Also available on SpringerLink: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-30244-2_15 This paper describes how location-aware Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) can be implemented on top of the Geographically eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (GeoXACML). It furthermore sketches how spatial separation of duty constraints (both static and dynamic) can be implemented using GeoXACML on top of the XACML RBAC profile. The solution uses physical addressing of geographical locations which facilitates easy deployment of authorisation profiles to the mobile device. Location-aware RBAC c…
