Notice of Violation of IEEE Publication Principles: Enhanced P2P Services Providing Multimedia Content

2006

[This paper has been withdrawn by the publisher]Traditional peer-to-peer (P2P) services provide only basic searching facilities, based on unique identifiers or small sets of keywords. Unfortunately, this approach is very inadequate and inefficient when a huge amount of multimedia resources is shared. In this paper, we present an original image and video sharing system, in which a user is able to interactively search interesting resources by means of content-based image and video retrieval techniques. In order to limit the network traffic cost, maximizing the usefulness of each peer contacted in the query process, we also propose the adoption of an adaptive overlay routing algorithm, exploit…

LanguageLab - A Meta-modelling Environment

2015

In the LanguageLab language workbench, we build on a component-based approach to language specification that facilitates the specification of all aspects of a computer language in a consistent manner, taking into account best practices in meta-modelling and language design. The workbench allows operation on a suitable abstraction level, and also focuses on user-friendliness and a low threshold to getting started, in order to make it useful for teaching of meta-modelling and language design and specification. The platform is open for third party language modules and facilitates rapid prototyping of DSLs, re-use of language modules, and experiments with multiple concrete syntaxes. The platfor…

Researchers' Age, Gender and Professional Status as Indicators of the Twitter Perception in Science Dissemination

2019

Bot recognition in a Web store: An approach based on unsupervised learning

2020

Abstract Web traffic on e-business sites is increasingly dominated by artificial agents (Web bots) which pose a threat to the website security, privacy, and performance. To develop efficient bot detection methods and discover reliable e-customer behavioural patterns, the accurate separation of traffic generated by legitimate users and Web bots is necessary. This paper proposes a machine learning solution to the problem of bot and human session classification, with a specific application to e-commerce. The approach studied in this work explores the use of unsupervised learning (k-means and Graded Possibilistic c-Means), followed by supervised labelling of clusters, a generative learning stra…

Availability in BitTorrent Systems

2007

In this paper, we investigate the problem of highly available, massive-scale file distribution in the Internet. To this end, we conduct a large-scale measurement study of BitTorrent, a popular class of systems that use swarms of actively downloading peers to assist each other in file distribution. The first generation of BitTorrent systems used a central tracker to enable coordination among peers, resulting in low availability due to the tracker's single point of failure. Our study analyzes the prevalence and impact of two recent trends to improve BitTorrent availability: (i) use of multiple trackers, and (ii) use of Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs), both of which also help to balance load be…

The effect of cooperative infrastructure fees on high-speed rail and airline competition

2021

Abstract This paper explores the effects of cooperation between rail and air infrastructures in setting per-passenger fees prior to competition among airlines and high-speed rail (HSR) in a transport network. It is shown that, for a sufficiently low degree of substitution, cooperation results in lower fees and greater HSR traffic than under competition. Besides, it leads to more connecting passengers. An empirical application allows for a quantitative assessment of cooperation. Gains to passengers and operators are sizeable when cooperation either involves all infrastructure managers or the rail and the hub airport managers. Welfare gains are in the range of 10.4–11.1%. Our contribution off…

Impacts écologiques des formes d'urbanisation : modélisations urbaines et paysagères

2015

The global increase of urbanization during the past decades have induced a progressive artificialization of natural environments. The building of transport infrastructures and new housings causes a landscape fragmentation in an irreversible way and a strong decrease of the connectivity of ecological habitats. Maintaining the functionality of ecological networks is becoming a major goal of sustainable urban planning policies. With a special focus on urban evolutions in the horizon 2030 in the urban area of Besançon in eastern France (residential development and road traffic evolutions), this thesis aims to assess the potential impact of urban forms on landscape connectivity of animal species…

Externalités d'informations et évolution des villes

1999

Present-day city growth is chiefly the result of new tertiary activities such as financial and producer services, R&D, or business administration. These activities consume human capital, knowledge and high-tech capital, which are all rapidly changing inputs; they are based on complex decision-making processes; this renders them highly information-dependent. Inasmuch as these activities are the main key to understanding the city, information must play a leading role in understanding urban forms. The concentration of these activities in cities appears paradoxical in the era of information. They are agglomerated because of their need of proximity for exchanging information. But information can…

Planning and Public Health. Nordkraft Regeneration as a Center of Culture and Health

2021

More than half of the world's population currently lives in cities, and urban health problems have worsened. In cities, there are serious risk factors for health and the spread of diseases, such as COVID-19 whose major epicentres have been in urban settlements. To guarantee public health, urban environments must be remodelled on the basis of new urban planning principles, in a holistic vision with integrated social and health-related aspects. Indeed, public health in urban habitats is not just about increasing life expectancy but also about improving the quality of life itself. Consequently, urban environments must offer not only health services but also social opportunities to individuals,…
