A combined relay-selection and routing protocol for cooperative wireless sensor networks

2012

International audience; In wireless sensor networks several constraints decrease communications performances. In fact, channel randomness and energy restrictions make classical routing protocols inefficient. Therefore, the design of new routing protocols that cope with these constraints become mandatory. The main objective of this paper is to present a multi-objective routing algorithm RBCR that computes routing path based on the energy consumption and channel qualities. Additionally, the channel qualities are evaluated based on the presence of relay nodes. Compared to AODV and AODV associated to a cooperative MAC protocol, RBCR provides better performances in term of delivery ratio, power …

A Network Protocol to Enhance Robustness in Tree-Based WSNs Using Data Aggregation

2007

This paper proposes a data gathering strategy for wireless sensor networks and an implementation based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The algorithm combines the benefits of single-path and multi-path routing strategies in a hybrid solution which makes use of alternative paths when necessary. We adopt a caching and retransmission technique, which exploits some peculiar features of data aggregation, with the use of implicit acknowledgments of reception. The paper also discusses simulation results that show how the mentioned techniques, combined with exploitation of the features of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard have been used to obtain an efficient protocol that takes energy consumption into acco…

QoS Multi-tree Based Routing Protocol for Inter-mesh Infrastructure Communications

2016

Part 5: Network Protocols; International audience; Quality of service (QoS) in wireless mesh networks (WMN) is an active area of research, which is driven by the increasing demand for real-time and multimedia applications, such as VoIP (Voice over IP) and VoD (Video on Demand). In this paper, we propose a QoS multi-tree based routing protocol for wireless mesh environments, named Inter-Mesh Infrastructure Proactive Routing (IMPR). It is a proactive multi-tree routing protocol enabling QoS guarantee for communications from/towards the Internet network through the Mesh Gateway (MG) of the mesh infrastructure. We describe and analyze the simulation results of different scenarios conducted on t…

QoS Based Routing Protocol for Intra-Mesh Infrastructure Communications

2015

International audience; Mesh Networks (WMNs) have been considered as a promising alternative to conventional wired networks, thanks to its flexibility and easy deployment. Thus, to ensure a satisfying level of QoS guarantees for real-time and streaming applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and Video on Demand (VoD), we propose a novel QoS based routing protocol for wireless mesh environments, called Hybrid QoS Mesh Routing (HQMR), jointly with a clustering algorithm to enhance scalability issues within the mesh infrastructure. HQMR is composed of two routing sub-protocols: a reactive routing sub-protocol for intra-infrastructure communications and a proactive QoS based multi-tree routin…

Self-configuring multipath intra-mesh infrastructure QoS based routing

2016

International audience; Multi-path routing concept was largely exploited in wireless networks to provide benefits such as fault tolerance, load balancing, performance improvement in terms of latency, etc. In this paper, we propose a multi-path routing based protocol named MP-IMRR (Multi-path Intra-Mesh infrastructure Routing protocol) to improve our previously defined QoS based routing protocol for wireless mesh networks (i.e. IMRR). MP-IMRR is defined in order to achieve better reactivity and faster recovery from eventual route failures than the IMRR protocol by adopting the backup routes concept. Besides, given the complexity increase while considering network management systems, we adopt…

Cooperative layer-2 based routing approach for hybrid wireless mesh networks

2013

In a Wireless Mesh Network (WMN), the convenience of a routing strategy strongly depends on the mobility of the intermediate nodes that compose the paths. Taking this behaviour into account, this paper presents a routing scheme that works differently accordingly to the node mobility. In this sense, a proactive routing scheme is restricted to the backbone to promote the use of stable routes. Conversely, the reactive protocol is used for searching routes to or from a mobile destination. Both approaches are simultaneously implemented in the mesh nodes so that the routing protocols share routing information that optimises the network performance. Aimed at guaranteeing the IP compatibility, the …

A secure intersection-based routing protocol for data collection in urban vehicular networks

2014

Data routing has gained great intention since the appearance of Vehicular Networks (VANETs). However, in the presence of attackers, reliable and trustworthy operations in such networks become impossible without securing routing protocols. In this paper, we target to study and design a secure routing protocol S-GyTAR for vehicular environments. Several kinds of routing techniques are proposed in the literature and could be classified into topology-based or position-based strategies. Position-based is the most investigated strategy in vehicular networks due to the unique characteristics of such networks. For this reason, this work is based on the well-known intersection-based routing protocol…

On the Interaction Between IEEE 802.11e and Routing Protocols in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

2005

The upcoming IEEE 802.11e standard was developed to offer QoS capabilities to WLAN, offering significative improvements to multimedia traffic. MANETs also benefit from this new technology since the most widely deployed and used wireless interfaces are IEEE 802.11 based. In this paper we expose results relative to the interaction of reactive routing protocols for MANETs and the IEEE 802.11e technology. We find that very substantial improvements in terms of throughput and normalized routing overhead are achieved due to increased routing responsiveness. We also detail the relation between the behavior experienced in each case and the internal mechanisms of the routing protocol being used, offe…

A Group-Based Architecture for Wireless Sensor Networks

2007

Many routing protocols for ad-hoc networks and sensor networks have been designed, but none of them are based on groups. We propose to divide the network into several groups of sensors. When a sensor send data to other groups, the data has to arrive just to one sensor from each group, then they propagate it to the rest of sensors in their groups. We have simulated our proposal for different types of sensor topologies to know which type of topology is the best depending on the number of sensors in the whole network or depending on the number of interior sensors. We have also simulated how much time is needed to propagate information between groups. The application areas for our proposal coul…

A dynamic multi-sink routing protocol for static and mobile self-organizing wireless networks: A routing protocol for Internet of Things

2021

Abstract With the rapid advent of using various devices like smart phones, vehicles etc, the connection of these devices with the help of Internet connectivity has emerged to IoT paradigm. The interconnection of smart objects under the various real world constraints like communication technologies, network scalability, node mobility, energy consumption etc, is a big challenge and requires designing new robust, adaptive, dynamic, and configurable routing protocols. With the arrival of the 5G and the future Internet, the latency time will be extremely reduced, this motivated us to propose a new protocol that entrust internet to transport a large part of control and data traffic of the network…
