Series resistance determination and further characterization of c-Si PV modules
2012
Abstract This paper presents a new algorithm for determination of the series resistance of crystalline-Si PV modules from individual illuminated I–V curves. The ideality factor and the reverse saturation current are then extracted in the classic way. The approach is applied to in-situ measured data from modules based on two types of mc-Si feedstock. The results indicate that the method yields physically meaningful parameters. An improved definition of local ideality factor is suggested, resulting in m-V plots unaffected by the series resistance. In addition, m-I plots are introduced for the first time. The novel differential techniques reveal an unexpected rise of the ideality factor at ope…
High voltage vacuum-deposited CH3NH3PbI3-CH3NH3PbI3 tandem solar cells
2018
The recent success of perovskite solar cells is based on two solid pillars: the rapid progress of their power conversion efficiency and their flexibility in terms of optoelectrical properties and processing methods. That versatility makes these devices ideal candidates for multi-junction photovoltaics. We report an optically optimized double junction CH3NH3PbI3–CH3NH3PbI3 tandem solar cell where the matched short-circuit current is maximized while parasitic absorption is minimized. The use of an additive vacuum-deposition protocol allows us to reproduce calculated stack designs, which comprise several charge selective materials that ensure appropriate band alignment and charge recombination…
Ni alloy nanowires as high efficiency electrode materials for alkaline electrolysers
2021
Abstract The fabrication and characterization of nickel-alloy electrodes for alkaline electrolysers is reported. Three different alloys (Ni–Co, Ni–Zn and Ni–W) at different composition were studied in order to determine the optimum condition. Nanostructured electrodes were obtained by template electrodeposition into a nanoporous membrane, starting from aqueous solution containing the two elements of the alloy at different concentrations. Composition of alloys can be tuned by electrolyte composition and also depends on the difference of the redox potential of elements and on the presence of complexing agents in deposition bath. Electrochemical and electrocatalytic tests, aimed at establishin…
Vacuum deposited perovskite solar cells employing dopant-free triazatruxene as the hole transport material
2017
Abstract Planar perovskite solar cells using organic charge selective contacts were fabricated. In a vacuum deposited perovskite-based solar cell, dopant and additive free triazatruxene as the hole transport layer was introduced for device fabrication. High open-circuit voltage of 1090 mV was obtained using methylammonium lead iodide (Eg=1.55 eV) as light harvesting material, thus representing a loss of only 460 mV which is in close vicinity of mature silicon technology (400 mV). The devices showed a very competitive photovoltaic performance, monochromatic incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency of 80% and the power conversion efficiencies in excess of 15% were measured with a neg…
Optical Spectra and Direct Optical Transitions in Amorphous and Crystalline ZnO Thin Films and Powders
2010
Comparative studies of ZnO crystalline and amorphous thin films and nanocrystalline powders are reported. The UV-visible optical spectra were analyzed with special attention paid to the direct optical bandgap. Atmospheric radio-frequency barrier torch discharge and pulsed hollow cathode sputtering techniques for the film fabrication were used. For the crystalline films, similar values of the direct optical bandgap were found independent of the growth method used. The analysis of the amorphous films and powders revealed a pronounced Urbach-like exponential absorption tail approaching the bandedge. For the powders, the bandgap energies were larger than those for the crystalline and amorphous …
Fabrication and Characterisation of Perovskite Thin Films for Photovoltaic Application
2018
This paper presents an alternative way to obtain perovskite thin films for photovoltaic application. This technique results more competitive, scalable, low-cost, reproducible and is different from other most common methods of fabrication.
Flexible high efficiency perovskite solar cells
2014
Flexible perovskite based solar cells with power conversion efficiencies of 7% have been prepared on PET based conductive substrates. Extended bending of the devices does not deteriorate their performance demonstrating their suitability for roll to roll processing.
Determination of lifetime probabilities of carbon fibre composite plates and pressure vessels for hydrogen storage
2011
International audience; It is shown that an analogy can be made between the failure of unidirectional carbon fibre reinforced epoxy plates and filament wound carbon fibre composite pressure vessels and that their strengths and failure probabilities can be determined. Fibres in filament wound composite structures are placed on geodesic paths around the mandrel, which becomes the liner; so that when the structure is pressurised the fibres are only subjected to tensile forces, as in a unidirectional composite. Multiscale modelling reveals that composite failure is controlled by fibre breakage and that clustering of fibre breaks determines ultimate reliability of the structure. Time dependent r…
Visual indicator for the detection of end-of-life criterion for composite high pressure vessels for hydrogen storage
2012
International audience; A model to predict the accumulation of fibre breaks in advanced composites, that takes into account all physical phenomena implicated in fibre failure (i.e. the random nature, stress transfer due to breaks, fibre debonding and viscosity of the matrix) shows clearly that the failure of a unidirectional composite structure results in the formation of random fibre breaks which at higher loads coalesce into clusters of broken fibres. This stage of development is followed almost immediately by failure. This has direct application to filament wound pressure vessels of the type used to store hydrogen under high pressure. A novel, cost effective, method of revealing developi…
Supported C60-IL-PdNPs as extremely active nanocatalysts for C-C cross-coupling reactions
2016
A C60-ionic liquid hybrid has been covalently linked to three different solid supports, namely amorphous silica, SBA-15 and Fe2O3@SiO2, and the resulting materials have been employed as covalently supported ionic liquid phases (cSILP) in order to immobilize and stabilize palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs). These novel hybrid materials are based on a sort of "matryoshka" system (PdNPs@imidazolium-salt@C60@support) in which the imidazolium-based moieties have not been directly linked to the surface of the support, but they are present in an octopus-like spatial arrangement on the uniformly surface-distributed fullerenes. These materials have been fully characterized and successfully employed as …
