Isometric embeddings of snowflakes into finite-dimensional Banach spaces

We consider a general notion of snowflake of a metric space by composing the distance by a nontrivial concave function. We prove that a snowflake of a metric space $X$ isometrically embeds into some finite-dimensional normed space if and only if $X$ is finite. In the case of power functions we give a uniform bound on the cardinality of $X$ depending only on the power exponent and the dimension of the vector space.

Duality of moduli in regular toroidal metric spaces

We generalize a result of Freedman and He [4, Theorem 2.5], concerning the duality of moduli and capacities in solid tori, to sufficiently regular metric spaces. This is a continuation of the work of the author and Rajala [12] on the corresponding duality in condensers. peerReviewed

Fitoplancton de dos lagunas de los humedalesde Xeresa y Xeraco (Valencia, España).

M.Jose.Villena@uv.es Susana.Romo@uv.es Se ha estudiado la composición fitoplanctónica de dos lagunas costeras mediterráneas, que corresponden a los marjales de Xeresa y Xeraco (Valencia). Estas zonas húmedas de la Comunidad Valenciana poseen un importante valor ecológico y botánico para nuestra Península, aunque actualmente se encuentran amenazadas por transformaciones de tipo turístico o agrícola. Las lagunas estudiadas se caracterizan por ser someras (Zmax: 3 m), oligohalinas, de aguas transparentes y mesotróficas, y por encontrarse sobre lechos de turba y con praderas de macrófitos sumergidos. Deep-Sea Bioluminescence Blooms after Dense Water Formation at the Ocean Surface

The deep ocean is the largest and least known ecosystem on Earth. It hosts numerous pelagic organisms, most of which are able to emit light. Here we present a unique data set consisting of a 2.5-year long record of light emission by deep-sea pelagic organisms, measured from December 2007 to June 2010 at the ANTARES underwater neutrino telescope in the deep NW Mediterranean Sea, jointly with synchronous hydrological records. This is the longest continuous time-series of deep-sea bioluminescence ever recorded. Arkkitehti Alvar Aalto sai suunniteltavakseen Muuramen kirkon vuonna 1926.Tämä klassisistinen kirkko on pohjois-eteläsuuntaan sijoitettu yksilaivainen valkoiseksi rapattu pitkäkirkko, joka kohoaa kylätaajamassa kahden järven välisellä Muuratharjulla. Kirkon pohjoisjulkisivua hallitsee pääsisäänkäyntiä korostava pyörökaarisyvennys, jonka muoto toistuu kirkon eteläistä julkisivua hallitsevan puolipyöreän apsidin muodossa. Rakennuksen itäsivulla nousee korkea ja kapea campanile-tyylinen kellotorni. Länsipuolen julkisivua hallitsee runkohuoneeseen nähden poikittain sijoitettu seurakuntasali, jonka alaosa avautuu pieneksi arkadikaariston kehystämäksi loggiaksi. Re-establishment of zooplankton communities in temporary ponds after autumn flooding: Does restoration age matter?

Abstract In temporary ponds, reestablishment of zooplankton communities depends on recruitment from the egg bank, the arrival of dispersers from within the region, and on successful establishment of newly arrived species following interaction with local abiotic and biotic factors. When the ponds dry up, zooplankton species may survive as dormant eggs, and since not all eggs hatch in the next season, eggs will accumulate in the sediment over time, representing an archive of the pond's historical biodiversity.
