Nonlocal analytical solution for multilayered composite shells

2021

Abstract In this work, an advanced nonlocal analytical formulation for the static analysis of composite shell structures is proposed. The governing equations are derived from the Principle of Virtual Displacement (PVD) [1] and are solved by the use of the Navier solution [2]. Layer-Wise models related to linear up to fourth order variations of the unknown variables in the thickness direction are treated. The modelization of multilayered structure materials takes into account the composite material properties and the nonlocal behavior based on the work of Eringen [3]. In order to take into account the nonlocality of the material, the Eringen’s stress-gradient model is employed [4]. The novel…

A thermodynamically consistent nonlocal formulation for damaging materials

2002

A thermodynamically consistent nonlocal formulation for damaging materials is presented. The second principle of thermodynamics is enforced in a nonlocal form over the volume where the dissipative mechanism takes place. The nonlocal forces thermodynamically conjugated are obtained consistently from the free energy. The paper indeed extends to elastic damaging materials a formulation originally proposed by Polizzotto et al. for nonlocal plasticity. Constitutive and computational aspects of the model are discussed. The damage consistency conditions turn out to be formulated as an integral complementarity problem and, consequently, after discretization, as a linear complementarity problem. A n…

Comments on `Nonlocal strain softening bar revisited' by Christer Nilsson: [International Journal of Solids and Structures 34 (1997) 4399-4419]

1999

Nilsson (1997) addressed the analytical solution of an elastic plastic softening bar in extension within the framework of nonlocal plasticity, making use to this purpose of a theory of nonlocal plasticity preliminary devised in the same paper (Section 2). The results there presented - from the thermodynamic arguments supporting the devised theory, to the bar solution - are quite interesting. The writers, involved in the same research area, wish to discuss a few points of the paper in a fully collaborative spirit. We use the same notation as in Nilsson's paper.

QCD Induced Di-boson Production in Association with Two Jets at NLO QCD

2016

We discuss results for di-boson plus two jets production processes at the LHC at NLO QCD. Issues related to the scale choice are reviewed. We focus on the distributions of the invariant mass and rapidity separation of the two hardest jets and show, for $W^\pm \gamma jj$ and $Z\gamma jj$ production, how the contribution from the radiative decays of the massive gauge bosons can be significantly reduced.

Including resummation in the NLO BK equation

2017

We include a resummation of large transverse momentum logarithms in the next-to-leading order (NLO) Balitsky-Kovchegov equation. The resummed evolution equation is shown to be stable, the evolution speed being significantly reduced by NLO corrections. The contributions from NLO terms that are not enhanced by large logarithms are found to be numerically important close to phenomenologically relevant initial conditions. We numerically determine the value for the constant in the resummed logarithm that includes a maximal part of the full NLO terms in the resummation.

Search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the two photon decay channel with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

2011

A search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the two photon decay channel is reported, using 1.08 fb−11.08 fb[superscript −1] of proton–proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. No significant excess is observed in the investigated mass range of 110–150 GeV. Upper limits on the cross-section times branching ratio of between 2.0 and 5.8 times the Standard Model prediction are derived for this mass range.

Exclusive heavy vector meson electroproduction to NLO in collinear factorisation

2021

We compute the exclusive electroproduction, $\gamma^* p \rightarrow V p$, of heavy quarkonia $V$ to NLO in the collinear factorisation scheme, which has been formally proven for this process. The inclusion of an off-shell virtuality $Q^2$ carried by the photon extends the photoproduction phase space of the exclusive heavy quarkonia observable to electroproduction kinematics. This process is relevant for diffractive scattering at HERA and the upcoming EIC, as well as at the proposed LHeC and FCC.

Kansainvälisten koulutusarvioiden vertailu koulutuksellisen tiedonlouhinnan keinoin

2016

Koulutusta ja eri ikäisten lasten akateemista suorituskykyä mittaavat tutkimustulokset ovat kiinnostavaa tarkasteltavaa monien alojen työntekijöille ja tutkijoille. Nykyään monet organisaatiot, kuten OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) ja IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement), järjestävät tietyin aikavälein kansainvälisiä mittauksia, joissa mitataan tietyn ikäisten lasten akateemisia kykyjä ja kysellään heidän elämästään koulussa ja kotona. Näistä mittauksista syntyvät tietokannat ovat suuria ja ne tarjoavat monipuolista tietoa koulutuksesta ja lasten oppimiseen vaikuttavista tekijöistä. Kaiken tämän lisäksi, nämä tietokannat…

VBFNLO: A parton level Monte Carlo for processes with electroweak bosons

2009

VBFNLO is a fully flexible parton level Monte Carlo program for the simulation of vector boson fusion, double and triple vector boson production in hadronic collisions at next-to-leading order in the strong Coupling constant. VBFNLO includes Higgs and vector boson decays with full spin correlations and all off-shell effects. In addition, VBFNLO implements CP-even and CP-odd Higgs boson via gluon fusion, associated with two jets, at the leading-order one-loop level with the full top- and bottom-quark mass dependence in a generic two-Higgs-doublet model. A variety of effects arising from beyond the Standard Model physics are implemented for selected processes. This includes anomalous coupling…
