Microphase separation in ternary ABC block copolymers: Ordering control in molten diblock AB copolymers by attaching a short strongly interacting C b…

1997

Some specific features of the microphase separation in molten ternary ABC triblock copolymers (in particular, modifications of the molten AB diblock copolymers by attaching a short third block C strongly incompatible with both A and B blocks) are studied rigorously within the framework of the weak segragation approach. It is shown that via such a modification one can control both the stability as to the microphase separation transition (i.e., the corresponding spinodal temparatures) and the smoothness of such a transition. Two modes of such modifications for every composition are studied in detail:  (i) those resulting in the minimal spinodal temperatures and (ii) those that result in the s…

Transcranial direct current stimulation over left and right DLPFC: Lateralized effects on planning performance and related eye movements.

2014

Left and right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) were recently found to be differentially affected by unilateral continuous theta-burst stimulation, reflected in an oppositional alteration of initial thinking time (ITT) in the Tower of London planning task. Here, we further explored this finding using bilateral transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and simultaneous tracking of eye movements. Results revealed a decrease in ITT during concurrent cathodal tDCS of left dlPFC and anodal tDCS of right dlPFC. Eye-movement analyses showed that this facilitating tDCS effect was associated with the actual planning phase, thus reflecting a planning-specific impact of stimulation. For the…

Surface effects on spinodal decomposition in binary mixtures and the interplay with wetting phenomena.

1994

The phase separation of binary mixtures in a semi-infinite geometry is investigated both by a phenomenological theory and by numerical calculations using a discrete equivalent of the descriptive equations. In the framework of ``model B'' (which describes solid binary mixtures), attention is paid to a proper treatment of the boundary conditions at the free surfaces. We confine ourselves to short-range surface forces and consider parameter values that correspond to both nonwet and wet surfaces in thermal equilibrium. During the initial stages of spinodal decomposition, after a quench from considering an initial condition that corresponds to a completely random concentration distribution, one …

Immune pathway upregulation and lower genomic instability distinguish EBV-positive nodal T/NK-cell lymphoma from ENKTL and PTCL-NOS

2022

Primary Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive nodal T/NK-cell lymphoma (PTCL-EBV) is a poorly understood disease which shows features resembling extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) and is currently not recognized as a distinct entity but categorized as a variant of primary T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS). Herein, we analyzed copynumber aberrations (n=77) with a focus on global measures of genomic instability and homologous recombination deficiency and performed gene expression (n=84) and EBV miRNA expression (n=24) profiling as well as targeted mutational analysis (n=16) to further characterize PTCL-EBV in relation to ENKTL and PTCL-NOS. Multivariate analysis revealed that …

Extranodal extension of lymph node metastasis influences recurrence in prostate cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

2017

AbstractThe extranodal extension (ENE) of nodal metastasis involves the extension of neoplastic cells through the lymph node capsule into the perinodal adipose tissue. This morphological feature has recently been indicated as an important prognostic factor in various cancer types, but its role in prostate cancer is still unclear. We aimed to clarify it, performing the first meta-analysis on this issue, comparing prognostic parameters in surgically treated, node-positive prostate cancer patients with (ENE+) vs. without (ENE−) ENE. Data were summarized using risk ratios (RRs) for number of deaths/recurrences and hazard ratios (HRs), with 95% confidence intervals (CI), for the time-dependent r…

Malignant lymphoma of the oral cavity and the maxillofacial region: overall survival prognostic factors

2013

Objective: To identify the overall survival and prognostic factors of malignant lymphoma of the oral cavity and the maxillofacial region. Study Design: Clinical records data were obtained in order to determine overall survival at 2 and 5 years, the individual survival percentage of each possible prognostic factor with the actuarial technique, and the survival regarding the possible prognostic factors with the actuarial technique and the Log-rank and Cox's regression tests. Results: Of 151 subjects, an overall survival was 60% at 2 years, and 45% at 5 years. The multivariate analysis demonstrated statistically significant differences for clinical stage (p=0.002), extranodal involvement (p=0.…

Genome-wide DNA profiling of marginal zone lymphomas identifies subtype-specific lesions with an impact on the clinical outcome

2011

Abstract Marginal zone B-cell lymphomas (MZLs) have been divided into 3 distinct subtypes (extranodal MZLs of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue [MALT] type, nodal MZLs, and splenic MZLs). Nevertheless, the relationship between the subtypes is still unclear. We performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic DNA copy number changes in a very large series of MZL cases with the aim of addressing this question. Samples from 218 MZL patients (25 nodal, 57 MALT, 134 splenic, and 2 not better specified MZLs) were analyzed with the Affymetrix Human Mapping 250K SNP arrays, and the data combined with matched gene expression in 33 of 218 cases. MALT lymphoma presented significantly more frequently gain…
