An important element in current historical research is the analysis of diplomatic relations focusing on the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. They show the history of the Polish-Lithuanian state, its internal and foreign policy from a different historical perspective. In 1700, the Great Northern War broke out and changed the political power system in Central and Eastern Europe for the next decades. Diplomats from foreign courts were interested in this war, including Philippe Plantamour, secretary of the British embassy in Berlin. The ARGO-YBJ experiment, located at Yangbajing, Tibet, China, performed by a wide Sino-Italian collaboration, is designed to study cosmic rays, sub-TeV gamma ray sources and GeV Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) emission in the northern hemisphere, by means of detecting small size EAS (Extensive Air Shower) using a full coverage RPC (Resistive Plate Chamber) carpet. The central carpet of the detector is installed and put into operation to date, with 1900 m^2 of the carpet already operating since December 2004. With a trigger multiplicity of ≥60 hits, corresponding to a primary mode energy of 2 TeV, the angular resolution of EAS measurements is < 1 degree for showers with more than 500 recorded hits. We…

Summary Ion-exchange chromatography of glutamine synthetase polypeptides (GS; EC 6.3.1.2) from green leaves and the roots of Sinapis alba yielded identical elution patterns. This is likewise true for GS from etiolated cotyledons. As we have previously demonstrated the identity of GS-enzymes from etiolated and green leaf tissues, the obviously very similar charge properties of GS-proteins indicate the eventual existence of only one type of GS in all mustard plant organs. Abstract The environment of the central Mediterranean Sea is investigated on the basis of high-resolution planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossil data (mean sampling resolutions of about 80 and 160 yr, respectively). Notes on its morphology, ecology, distribution and taxonomic relationships are presented. It differs fromF. procumbens (Dunal) Gren. etGodr. andF. baetica Guemes, by the indument of the stem, the disposition of pedicels, and the size of the flowers.

Abstract Climatic oscillations in the Quaternary have played a major role in changing the geographical distribution of plant species. Recent molecular work has provided new insights into the location of glacial refugia and routes of postglacial expansion. A comparative analysis shows that phylogeographic patterns in Europe appear to be less congruent than in North America. Abstract Afrocanarian blue tits (Cyanistes teneriffae) have a scattered distribution on the Canary Islands and on the North African continent. To date, the Canary Islands have been considered the species’ main Pleistocene evolutionary center, but their colonization pathways remain uncertain. We set out to reconstruct a dated multi-gene phylogeny and ancestral ranges for Cyanistes tit species including the currently unstudied, peripheral Libyan population of C. t. cyrenaicae. The interaction of the Rev protein from human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) with the nucleocytoplasmic mRNA-transport system was investigated. In gel-shift assay, the recombinant Rev protein used in this study selectively bound to the Rev-responsive element (RRE) region of HIV-1 env-specific RNA. Nitrocellulose-filter-binding studies and Northern/Western-blotting experiments revealed an association constant of approximately 1 x 10(10) M-1. The Rev protein also strongly bound to isolated nuclear envelopes from H9 cells, containing the poly(A)-binding site (= mRNA carrier) and the nucleoside triphosphatase (= NTPase), which are thought to be involved in nuclear export of poly(A)-rich …
