Costruire con l’acqua: nuovi paradigmi dell’architettura sostenibile Building with water: new standards of sustainable architecture
2017
Within an increasingly consolidated architectural practice aiming at environmental sustainability and energy self-sufficiency, the article reports international research and experiments carried out on water-architecture. Furthermore, it highlights how, starting f…
Adapting marketing strategies: a linguistic analysis of wine advertising in Spain, 1970-2010
2019
The Spanish wine sector has undergone a series of changes in the last decades, particularly due to the decreasing domestic demand and the growing international competence. Consequently, Spanish wineries have had to adapt to this new situation by adopting new marketing policies. The aim of this study is to explore to what extent these new policies have been applied by means of the linguistic analysis and comparison of different types of advertisement in specialized printed media, focusing on the specific frequency of the most used word families in adverts from the 70s to present day. A corpus of 640 adverts has been compiled. We have particularly paid attention to the words that have been us…

Suppliers and Strategies for Upgrading in Global Production Networks: The Case of a Supplier to the Global Automotive Industry in a High-cost Location
2009
The paper analyses the possibilities for a Norwegian supplier incorporated into global production networks in the automotive industry to perform knowledge upgrading and innovation activity. A consistent finding is that different departments of the supplier are parts of different types of global network. The serial production of the supplier is distinguished by quasi-hierarchical governance by customers and by lean forms of work organization in the production that stimulate continuous, incremental upgrading of the production process. The development department has network relations with customers and learning forms of work organization, which triggers production and functional upgrading. The…

Work at home and time use in Finland
2011
This study examines the relationship between home-based work (HBW) and time use by comparing unpaid (overtime) home workers, paid (agreed) home workers and non-home workers. Especially, unpaid HBW was linked to the stretching of working hours and the reduction of free time.
Work, power and learning in a risk filled occupation
2011
In this article we describe various ways in which power is exercised between personnel in a hospital operating theatre. We aim to investigate how the forms of discursive power and workplace learning are intertwined with each other by utilizing an ethnographic approach in the fieldwork. Our data were collected mainly through observations and interviews with surgical residents, physicians and nurses. In the article we describe the delicate ways in which power is exercised and resisted in everyday practices. We argue that there is a close relationship between learning and manifestations of power, together with the various forms of these manifestations and the restrictions that may be placed o…
El enfoque AICLE y los entornos de aprendizaje en línea: El papel de Google My Maps y la producción escrita de los estudiantes en Historia Antigua
2021
Education in the 21 st century has moved towards digital learning to offer high quality programmes that meet the technological and communicative demands of today’s society. Well - known approaches such as Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) may benefit from this new reality by addressing linguistic and cognitive challenges in written discourse. This paper examines the written performance of forty first - year undergraduate students coursing a CLIL module in History of the Classical World at a Spanish university . By means of Google My Maps, participants were expected to create a custom map describing five Roman vestiges of their choic…
B-MINE, the balloon-borne microcalorimeter nuclear line explorer
2001
B-MINE is a concept for a balloon mission designed to probe the deepest regions of a supernova explosion by detecting Ti-44 emission at 68 keV with spatial and spectral resolutions that are sufficient to determine the extent and velocity distribution of the Ti-44 emitting region. The payload introduces the concept of focusing optics and microcalorimeter spectroscopy to nuclear line emission astrophysics. B-MINE has a thin, plastic foil telescope multilayered to maximize the reflectivity in a 20 keV band centered at 68 keV and a microcalorimeter array optimized for the same energy band. This combination provides a reduced background, an energy resolution of 50 eV and a 3sigma sensitivity in …
