Localization and separation of solutions for Fredholm integral equations
2020
[EN] In this paper, we establish a qualitative study of nonlinear Fredholm integral equations, where we will carry out a study on the localization and separation of solutions. Moreover, we consider an efficient algorithm to approximate a solution. To do this, we study the semilocal convergence of an efficient third order iterative scheme for solving nonlinear Fredholm integral equations under mild conditions. The novelty of our work lies in the fact that this study involves first order Frechet derivative and mild conditions. A numerical example involving nonlinear Fredholm integral equations, is solved to show the domains of existence and uniqueness of solutions. The applicability of the it…
Attractors of stochastic lattice dynamical systems with a multiplicative noise and non-Lipschitz nonlinearities
2012
AbstractIn this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of solutions of a first-order stochastic lattice dynamical system with a multiplicative noise. We do not assume any Lipschitz condition on the nonlinear term, just a continuity assumption together with growth and dissipative conditions, so that uniqueness of the Cauchy problem fails to be true.Using the theory of multi-valued random dynamical systems we prove the existence of a random compact global attractor.
Asset price dynamics in a “bull and bear market”
2021
Abstract We generalize an existing asset market model with heterogenous agents. In particular, we consider the case in which no-trade and low-trade intervals of chartists and fundamentalists respectively are not congruent. Thus we model chartist and fundamentalists who respond to asset prices in agent-specific neighborhoods around the fundamental value with different trade intensities. The resulting asset price dynamics is generated by a one-dimensional 5-piece linear map with discontinuities. Our analysis of this map focusses on coexisting price equilibria. Conditions for their existence and stability are determined analytically. By visualizing the results we allow for a basic bifurcation …
Money in the "Body Politick" : The Analysis of Trade and Circulation in the Writings of Seventeenth-Century Political Arithmeticians.
2005
International audience; This article discusses the analysis of trade and circulation in the writings of seventeenth-century political arithmeticians. Political arithmetic was in its way an anatomy of the social body. William Petty titled his 1672 book The Political Anatomy of Ireland. In his preface he explicitly claimed to be following Francis Bacon, highlighting the experimental method and the idea that analytical methods can be transposed from one discipline to another. He thus drew a parallel between the natural body and the body politic. It was a widely held idea that money guaranteed the nation's health; conversely its poor state of health could lead to the wasting away of the body po…
In search of family business continuity: the case of transgenerational family entrepreneurship
2011
This qualitative case study analyses continuity of transgenerational entrepreneurship in the family business. Transgenerational entrepreneurship is based on multigenerational, and in this particular firm, on the founder and next generation, business activities in the same family business. Methodologically, the data was collected by interviewing members of two generations of Imagon Ltd.; the founder, and his sons. Imagon Ltd. shows signs of transgenerational continuity. It did not start off that way in the founder’s mind; his desire was just to work for himself and fulfil his own visions. It was only much later that the prospect of defining his company as a family business entered the pictur…
Rigorous investigation of RF breakdown effects in high power microstrip passive circuits
2009
This work presents a new rigorous investigation of corona effects in microstrip components. To carry out the investigation, a new software tool has been developed. The new tool first calculates the electromagnetic fields in complex microstrip structures using a Volume Integral Equation (VIE) formulation. Novel numerical techniques have been incorporated in the VIE to increase the accuracy during the computation of the electromagnetic fields. This includes novel techniques introduced to treat the singularities of the Green's functions. Once the electromagnetic fields are computed accurately, corona effects in the relevant structures are investigated. For this, a numerical solution of the fre…
Analysis of ground fault current distribution along nonuniform multi-section lines
2008
In case of a substation supplied by a combined overhead-cable line, most of the ground fault current flows through the cable sheaths and discharges into the soil surrounding the point of discontinuity, where cables are connected to the overhead line. In the paper a new method is presented for computing the ground fault current distribution in case of feeding line consisting of two or more different sections, i.e. part overhead and part underground cable. Besides the calculation of the earth current at the fault location, the leakage current at the transit/transition stations as well as at the overhead line towers can be evaluated, in order to ensure proper safety conditions. Based on the tw…
3D simulations and experiments of guided wave propagation in adhesively bonded multi-layered structures
2010
Understanding guided wave propagation in multi-layered plates and interaction with discontinuities can be difficult, as well as the interpretation of the ultrasonic signals. Propagation of guided waves can be studied analytically solving the equations of motion with the proper boundary conditions; nevertheless analytical models can be difficult to solve for complex multi-layered structures or having inner discontinuities. The problem can be efficiently studied using numerical techniques. Simulation of guided wave propagation in multi-layered structures, for ultrasonic waves in the MHz range, is solved here with the finite element analysis based on an explicit integration rule to solve the e…
Applicational Aspects of a New Diagnostic Methodology for Fault Location in MV Networks: Problems, Solutions and Improvements
2005
The electrical energy market liberalization has encouraged utilities to make new investments at distribution level so as to attain higher quality levels. Service continuity is one of the aspects of greater importance in the definition of the quality of the electrical energy, for this reason, the research in the field of faults diagnostic for distribution systems is spreading ever more. The Authors have just developed a new methodology for diagnostic management of automated distribution systems. The technique is based on the use of circuital models of the electrical system resulting from the composition of quadripoles. In this paper, after a brief description of the proposed approach, the is…
