Return Visits: The European Background of Transcultural Life Writing

In this article I read autobiographies by East Europeans who immigrated to Canada in connection with the Second World War as examples of transcultural life writing. My focus on the representation of return visits of these loyal Canadian citizens to their country of origin after 1989 reveals the underlying intention of relating the experience of life in a multicultural democratic society to the emergence of a new political consciousness in Eastern Europe. International audience; This project examines the impact of higher education on wellbeing in Canada and internationally using the capability approach. The focus is theoretical and empirical: The conceptual conclusions and statistical results are compared to those of human capital and utilitarian approaches, and the implications for higher education research in Canada are explored.

Comparative Study of the Compressibility of M3V2O8 (M = Cd, Zn, Mg, Ni) Orthovanadates

We report herein a theoretical study of the high-pressure compressibility of Cd3V2O8, Zn3V2O8, Mg3V2O8, and Ni3V2O8. For Cd3V2O8, we also present a study of its structural stability. Computer simulations were performed by means of first-principles methods using the CRYSTAL program. In Cd3V2O8, we found a previously unreported polymorph which is thermodynamically more stable than the already known polymorph. We also determined the compressibility of all compounds and evaluated the different contributions of polyhedral units to compressibility. The interaction of Schiff-base ligands derived from 4,6-O-ethylidene-β-D-glucopyranosylamine with cis-VO 2 + , cis-MoO 2 2+ , and trans-UO 2 2+ species have been studied by isolating and characterizing the corresponding products. The structures of one complex of each type of species have been established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In all the complexes, the saccharide moiety adopts a chair conformation and has a β-anomeric form. A gradual increase in coordination number (5, 6, and 7) and a gradual variation in the geometry (distorted trigonal-bipyramidal, distorted octahedral, and pentagonal-bipyramidal) are observed on going from the complexes of cis-VO 2 + (mononuclear) …
Oxidative dehydrogenation of n-butane on MgO-supported vanadium oxide catalysts

Abstract Vanadium–magnesium oxide (VMgO) catalysts have been prepared, characterized and tested in the ODH of n-butane. The catalysts were prepared by two variations of the wet-impregnation method using aqueous ammonium metavanadate or organically-based methanolic vanadyl acetylacetonate solutions. The catalyst surface area depends on the vanadium content and the preparation method. Catalyst characterization (i.e. XRD, 51V NMR, FTIR, LRS) results indicate the presence of poor crystalline Mg-orthovanadate (Mg3V2O8), while the presence of other Mg-vanadates is not clear. Como consecuencia de la crisis de la desaparición del grado en Historia del Arte se abrió un verdadero foro de defensa y justificación del mismo en ta actualidad. En el presente ensayo se trata de buscar los motivos por los cuales se puede explicar esa crisis sirviéndonos para su análisis de tos planteamientos de Pierre Bourdieu en el devenir histórico de la disciplina en la universidad española.
