Quantum dynamics by the constrained adiabatic trajectory method

We develop the constrained adiabatic trajectory method (CATM) which allows one to solve the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation constraining the dynamics to a single Floquet eigenstate, as if it were adiabatic. This constrained Floquet state (CFS) is determined from the Hamiltonian modified by an artificial time-dependent absorbing potential whose forms are derived according to the initial conditions. The main advantage of this technique for practical implementation is that the CFS is easy to determine even for large systems since its corresponding eigenvalue is well isolated from the others through its imaginary part. Mid-infrared and Raman spectrometry for quality control of pesticide formulations

This article deals with recent developments in the use of vibrational spectrometry for the quantitative analysis of active components in commercial pesticide formulations. We review the techniques, such as Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and FT-Raman spectrometries, and measurement modes, such as stopped flow or flow injection. FTIR is being used increasingly in the determination of pesticides in agrochemical products because of its relatively short analysis time. Flow resistance in gravel-bed channels with large-scale roughness

A previously published mixing length (ML) model for evaluating the Darcy–Weisbach friction factor for a large-scale roughness condition (depth to sediment height ratio ranging from 1 to 4) is briefly reviewed and modified (MML). Then the MML model and a modified drag (MD) model are experimentally tested using laboratory measurements carried out for gravel-bed channels and large-scale roughness condition. This analysis showed that the MML gives accurate estimates of the Darcy–Weisbach coefficient and for Froude number values greater than 0·5 the MML model coincides with the ML one. Rill flow resistance law under sediment transport

Abstract Purpose In this paper, a deduced flow resistance equation for open-channel flow was tested using measurements carried out in mobile bed rills with sediment-laden flows and fixed bed rills. Slope threshold in rill flow resistance

The applicability of a theoretical rill flow resistance equation, based on the integration of a power velocity distribution, was tested using measurements carried out in mobile and fixed bed rills, shaped on plots having different slopes (9, 14, 15, 18, 22, 24, 25 and 26%) and soil textures (clay fractions ranging from 32.7% to 73% and silt of 19.9–30.9%), and flume measurements available in the literature. Flow Resistance Law in Channels with Flexible Submerged Vegetation

In this paper, experimental data collected in a straight flume having a bed covered by grasslike vegetation have been used to analyze flow resistance for flexible submerged elements. At first, the measurements are used to test the applicability of Kouwen’s method. Then, a calibration of two coefficients appearing in the semilogarithmic flow resistance equation is carried out. Finally, applying the P-theorem and the incomplete self-similarity condition, a flow resistance equation linking the friction factor with the shear Reynolds number, the depth-vegetation height ratio and the inflection degree is deduced.

Stability in a System subject to Noise with Regulated Periodicity

The stability of a simple dynamical system subject to multiplicative one-side pulse noise with hidden periodicity is investigated both analytically and numerically. The stability analysis is based on the exact result for the characteristic functional of the renewal pulse process. The influence of the memory effects on the stability condition is analyzed for two cases: (i) the dead-time-distorted poissonian process, and (ii) the renewal process with Pareto distribution. We show that, for fixed noise intensity, the system can be stable when the noise is characterized by high periodicity and unstable at low periodicity.

Stochastic resonance in a trapping overdamped monostable system.

2009

The response of a trapping overdamped monostable system to a harmonic perturbation is analyzed, in the context of stochastic resonance phenomenon. We consider the dynamics of a Brownian particle moving in a piecewise linear potential with a white Gaussian noise source. Based on linear-response theory and Laplace transform technique, analytical expressions of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and signal power amplification (SPA) are obtained. We find that the SNR is a nonmonotonic function of the noise intensity, while the SPA is monotonic. Theoretical results are compared with numerical simulations.
