The modulus of elasticity is a parameter characterizing fracture stability of bone independent of bone mineral density. Measurement of acoustical properties of the forearm by determination of the resonant frequency of the ulna in longitudinal direction as a function of sound transmission velocity after adjustment of the measuring result by ulna length yields information about the modulus of elasticity. Combined resistance and balance-jumping exercise reduces older women's injurious falls and fractures: 5-year follow-up study

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: previously, a randomised controlled exercise intervention study (RCT) showed that combined resistance and balance-jumping training (COMB) improved physical functioning and bone strength. Flow cytometric analysis of concanavalin A binding to isolated Golgi fractions from rat liver.

Flow cytometry (FCM) has been used repeatedly to study lectin binding to whole cells. However, there are very few attempts to analyze glycoconjugates in isolated subcellular organelles. We have applied FCM to quantitate the specific binding of fluorescein-conjugated concanavalin A (FITC-Con A) to isolated cis and trans fractions of rat liver Golgi complex, the cell compartment involved in glycoprotein maturation and sorting. Our results show similar intensities of Con A-specific binding in the two fractions. Symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic key exchange protocols in the octonion algebra

AbstractWe propose three cryptographic key exchange protocols in the octonion algebra. Using the totient function, defined for integral octonions, we generalize the RSA public-key cryptosystem to the octonion arithmetics. The two proposed symmetric cryptographic key exchange protocols are based on the automorphism and the derivation of the octonion algebra.

Forcing for First-Order Languages from the Perspective of Rasiowa–Sikorski Lemma

The paper is concerned with the problem of building models for first-order languages from the perspective of the classic paper of Rasiowa and Sikorski [9]. The central idea, developed in this paper, consists in constructing first-order models from individual variables. The key notion of a Rasiowa–Sikorski set of formulas for an arbitrary countable language L is examined. Each Rasiowa–Sikorski set defines a countable model for L . Conversely, every countable model for L is determined by a Rasiowa–Sikorski set. The focus is on constructing Rasiowa–Sikorski sets by applying forcing techniques restricted to Boolean algebras arising from the subsets of the set of atomic formulas of L .

Regularity of the solution to a class of weakly singular fredholm integral equations of the second kind

Continuity and differentiability properties of the solution to a class of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind with weakly singular kernel are derived. The equations studied in this paper arise from e.g. potential problems or problems of radiative equilibrium. Under reasonable assumptions it is proved that the solution possesses continuous derivatives in the interior of the interval of integration but may have mild singularities at the end-points.

A Criterium for the Strict Positivity of the Density of the Law of a Poisson Process

We translate in semigroup theory our result (Leandre, 1990) giving a necessary condition so that the law of a Markov process with jumps could have a strictly positive density. This result express, that we have to jump in a finite number of jumps in a "submersive" way from the starting point to the end point if the density of the jump process is strictly positive in . We use the Malliavin Calculus of Bismut type of (Leandre, (2008;2010)) translated in semi-group theory as a tool, and the interpretation in semi-group theory of some classical results of the stochastic analysis for Poisson process as, for instance, the formula giving the law of a compound Poisson process.

In this paper an algebraic characterization of the class DLIN of functions that can be computed in linear time by a deterministic RAM using only numbers of linear size is given. This class was introduced by Grandjean, who showed that it is robust and contains most computational problems that are usually considered to be solvable in deterministic linear time.

Beyond frames: Semi-frames and reproducing pairs

Frames are nowadays a standard tool in many areas of mathematics, physics, and engineering. However, there are situations where it is difficult, even impossible, to design an appropriate frame. Thus there is room for generalizations, obtained by relaxing the constraints. A first case is that of semi-frames, in which one frame bound only is satisfied. Accordingly, one has to distinguish between upper and lower semi-frames. We will summarize this construction. Even more, one may get rid of both bounds, but then one needs two basic functions and one is led to the notion of reproducing pair.
