Plasmon-driven Bessel beams

2012

We report on subwavelength diffraction-free beams with grazing propagation in metal-dielectric devices. The nondiffracting beams are resonantly transmitted through the nanostructured medium leading to light confinement and wave amplification around the beam axis.

Electric field controllable magnetic coupling of localized spins mediated by itinerant electrons: a toy model

2017

In this paper, we propose a toy model to describe the magnetic coupling between the localized spins mediated by the itinerant electron in partially delocalized mixed-valence (MV) systems. This minimal model takes into account the key interactions that are common for all such systems, namely, electron transfer in the valence-delocalized moiety and magnetic exchange between the localized spins and the delocalized electrons. The proposed descriptive model is exactly solvable which allows us to qualitatively and quantitatively discuss the main features of the whole class of partially delocalized MV systems. In the case of relatively strong exchange coupling, the combined action of these two int…

Simultaneous Determination of Force Constants and Dipole Moment Derivatives of Methane.

1998

The expressions of the effective Hamiltonian and dipole moment spectroscopic parameters in the tetrahedral formalism are used simultaneously to fit the force field and dipole moment derivatives of the methane molecule. Data, the so-called "observed parameters," are the values of the spectroscopic parameters determined from the frequencies and line strengths analyses. The ambiguities of most parameters (in the polyad scheme) are treated consistently with the Hamiltonian reduction chosen in the frequency analyses. As an illustration, the method is applied to the tetrahedral XY4 isotopic species only. The quadratic and cubic force field constants have been determined in addition to the linear …

Development of the Hamiltonian and transition moment operators of symmetric top molecules using the O(3)⊃C∞v⊃C3v group chain

2005

Abstract We present a development of the Hamiltonian, dipole moment, and polarizability operators for XY3Z molecules. These rovibrational operators are written with the aid of a tensorial formalism derived from the one already used in Dijon and adapted to the XY3Z symmetric tops in a recent paper [A. El Hilali, V. Boudon, M. Loete, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 234 (2005) 166–174]. We use the O (3) ⊃ C∞v ⊃ C3v group chain. Expressions for the matrix elements are derived for these operators.

Spectroscopy of XY5Z (C4v) Molecules: Development of the Hamiltonian and the Transition Moment Operators Using a Tensorial Formalism

2000

We present a development of the Hamiltonian, dipole moment, and polarizability operators of XY(5)Z (C(4v)) molecules using a tensorial formalism derived from the one developed previously in Dijon for XY(6) molecules. These operators are involved in the calculation of the energies and intensities of rovibrational transitions and are essential for spectrum simulations. Expressions for the matrix elements are derived for all these operators. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.

A real-space approach to the analysis of stacking faults in close-packed metals: G(r) modelling and Q-space feedback

2019

An R-space approach to the simulation and fitting of a structural model to the experimental pair distribution function is described, to investigate the structural disorder (distance distribution and stacking faults) in close-packed metals. This is carried out by transferring the Debye function analysis into R space and simulating the low-angle and high-angle truncation for the evaluation of the relevant Fourier transform. The strengths and weaknesses of the R-space approach with respect to the usual Q-space approach are discussed.

A thermodynamical model of inhomogeneous superfluid turbulence

2007

In this paper we perform a thermodynamical derivation of a nonlinear hydrodynamical model of inhomogeneous superfluid turbulence. The theory chooses as fundamental fields the density, the velocity, the energy density, the heat flux and the averaged vortex line length per unit volume. The restrictions on the constitutive quantities are derived from the entropy principle, using the Liu method of Lagrange multipliers. The mathematical and physical consequences deduced by the theory are analyzed both in the linear and in the nonlinear regime. Field equations are written and the wave propagation is studied with the aim to describe the mutual interactions between the second sound and the vortex t…

Introduction to Wave Turbulence Formalisms for Incoherent Optical Waves

2016

We provide an introduction to different wave turbulence formalisms describing the propagation of partially incoherent optical waves in nonlinear media. We consider the nonlinear Schrodinger equation as a representative model accounting for a nonlocal or a noninstantaneous nonlinearity, as well as higher-order dispersion effects. We discuss the wave turbulence kinetic equation describing, e.g., wave condensation or wave thermalization through supercontinuum generation; the Vlasov formalism describing incoherent modulational instabilities and the formation of large scale incoherent localized structures in analogy with long-range gravitational systems; and the weak Langmuir turbulence formalis…

Two-parameter determinant representation of seventh order rogue wave solutions of the NLS equation

2013

We present a new representation of solutions of focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) equation as a quotient of two determinants. We construct families of quasi-rational solutions of the NLS equation depending on two parameters, a and b. We construct, for the first time, analytical expressions of Peregrine breather of order 7 and multi-rogue waves by deformation of parameters. These expressions make possible to understand the behavior of the solutions. In the case of the Peregrine breather of order 7, it is shown for great values of parameters a or b the appearance of the Peregrine breather of order 5. 35Q55; 37K10
