Exceeding the resolving imaging power using environmental conditions

We present two approaches that use the environmental conditions in order to exceed the classical Abbe's limit of resolution of an aperture-limited imaging system. At first we use water drops in order to improve the resolving capabilities of an imaging system using a time-multiplexing approach. The limit for the resolution improvement capabilities is equal to the size of the rain drops. The rain drops falling close to the imaged object act as a sparse and random high-resolution mask attached to it. Abstract We propose a signal deconvolution procedure for imaging spectrometer data, where a measured point spread function (PSF) is deconvolved itself before being used for deconvolution of the signal. We evaluate the effectiveness of our procedure for improvement of the spatio-spectral signal, as well as our target application, i.e. estimation of sun-induced fluorescence (SIF). Imaging spectrometers are well established instruments for remote sensing. When used for scientific purposes these instruments are usually calibrated on a regular basis. Regularity properties for quasiminimizers of a $(p,q)$-Dirichlet integral

Using a variational approach we study interior regularity for quasiminimizers of a $(p,q)$-Dirichlet integral, as well as regularity results up to the boundary, in the setting of a metric space equipped with a doubling measure and supporting a Poincar\'{e} inequality. For the interior regularity, we use De Giorgi type conditions to show that quasiminimizers are locally H\"{o}lder continuous and they satisfy Harnack inequality, the strong maximum principle, and Liouville's Theorem. Fourier-transform spectroscopy and potential construction of the (2)1Π state in KCs

The paper presents an empirical pointwise potential energy curve (PEC) of the (2)(1)Π state of the KCs molecule constructed by applying the Inverted Perturbation Approach routine. The experimental term values in the energy range E(v', J') ∈ [15 407; 16 579] cm(-1) involved in the fit were based on Fourier-Transform spectroscopy data obtained with 0.01 cm(-1) accuracy from the laser-induced (2)(1)Π → X(1)Σ(+) fluorescence spectra. Sharp capacity estimates for annuli in weighted $$\mathbf {R}^n$$ R n and in metric spaces

We obtain estimates for the nonlinear variational capacity of annuli in weighted $$\mathbf {R}^n$$ and in metric spaces. We introduce four different (pointwise) exponent sets, show that they all play fundamental roles for capacity estimates, and also demonstrate that whether an end point of an exponent set is attained or not is important. As a consequence of our estimates we obtain, for instance, criteria for points to have zero (resp. positive) capacity. Our discussion holds in rather general metric spaces, including Carnot groups and many manifolds, but it is just as relevant on weighted $$\mathbf {R}^n$$ . Characterization of Orlicz–Sobolev space

We give a new characterization of the Orlicz–Sobolev space W1,Ψ(Rn) in terms of a pointwise inequality connected to the Young function Ψ. We also study different Poincaré inequalities in the metric measure space.

Homeomorphisms of the Sierpinski curve with periodic properties

In this paper, we study the three following types of homeomorphisms of the Sierpinski curve of the two sphere : pointwise periodic, periodic, and almost periodic, and we prove that they are equivalent. We show that a subgroup of homeomorphisms whose orbits are all finite, is a finite subgroup.

On Inverse Distance Weighting in Pollution Models

When evaluating the impact of pollution, measurements from remote stations are often weighted by the inverse of distance raised to some nonnegative power (IDW). This is derived from Shepard's method of spatial interpolation (1968). The paper discusses the arbitrary character of the exponent of distance and the problem of monitoring stations that are close to the reference point.
