Pore Length Effect on Drug Uptake and Delivery by Mesoporous Silicas

2012

The capability of UVM-7 silicas to work as supports for drug storage and delivery is investigated using ibuprofen as a model. UVM-7 silicas are surfactant-assisted synthesised mesoporous materials displaying a characteristic bimodal pore architecture related to their nanoparticulate texture. Strict control of the drug-charge protocol allows the achievement of high ibuprofen loads, not only because of the availability of intra-nanoparticle mesopores and large textural voids, but also owing to the decrease in pore-blocking effects (with regard to related unimodal mesoporous materials such as MCM-41) achieved through the shortening of the mesopore length. The UVM-7/ibuprofen nanocomposites are…

Solitary necrotic nodules of the liver: cross-sectional imaging findings and follow-up in nine patients.

2008

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of our study was to retrospectively evaluate the sonographic, CT, and MRI findings (number, diameter, lobar location, depth from the hepatic capsule, and appearance of lesions) in a series of nine patients with pathologically proven solitary necrotic nodules of the liver and the natural evolution at follow-up in four of the nine patients.CONCLUSION. Solitary necrotic nodules are usually small, solitary lesions, mainly located under the liver capsule of the right lobe. They are hypoechoic on sonography, hypoattenuating on CT, have low signal intensity on both T1- and T2-weighted MRI with lack of enhancement after IV contrast administration, and at follow-up have a tend…

Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers for the selective determination of cocaine by ion mobility spectrometry

2018

Abstract Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) were prepared for cocaine recognition by bulk polymerization in the presence of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). Two reagents (polyethylene glycol (PEG) and 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (V)) were used for MNPs modification. MMIPs were characterized and compared in terms of loading capacity, reusability, accuracy and precision for the extraction of cocaine from saliva samples. It was observed that V-MMIPs gave higher physical stability than PEG-MMIPs. Thus, V-MMIP were used for the analysis of cocaine users saliva. The developed procedure based on ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) provided limits of detection and quantification o…

Evidence of noncentrosymmetry of human tooth hydroxyapatite crystals

2014

Herein, we investigate human single hydroxyapatite crystals (enamel and dentine) by convergent-beam electron diffraction (CBED) and automated electron-diffraction tomography (ADT). The CBED pattern shows the absence of the mirror plane perpendicular to the c axis leading to the P63 space group instead of the P63 /m space group considered for larger-scale crystals, this is confirmed by ADT. This experimental evidence is of prime importance for understanding the morphogenesis and the architectural organization of calcified tissues.

Cutaneous Recording and Stimulation of Muscles Using Organic Electronic Textiles

2016

International audience; Electronic textiles are an emerging field providing novel and non-intrusive solutions for healthcare. Conducting polymer-coated textiles enable a new generation of fully organic surface electrodes for electrophysiological evaluations. Textile electrodes are able to assess high quality muscular monitoring and to perform transcutaneous electrical stimulation.

Clinical evaluation of nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite paste in the treatment of human periodontal bony defects--a randomized controlled clinical tria…

2008

The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcome of intrabony periodontal defects following treatment with a novel nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (NHA) paste to open flap debridement.Twenty-eight subjects, each displaying one intrabony defect with probing depth (PD)or =6 mm and radiographic evidence of an intraosseous componentor =3 mm participated in the present study. Subjects were allocated randomly to treatment with NHA paste (test group) or open flap debridement (control group). At baseline and at 6 months after surgery, the following clinical parameters were recorded by a masked examiner: plaque index, gingival index, PD, clinical attachment level (CAL), and gingival recessio…

Resovist enhanced MR imaging of the liver: Does quantitative assessment help in focal lesion classification and characterization?

2009

Purpose: To improve characterization of focal liver lesions by a prospective quantitative analysis of percentage signal intensity change, in dynamic and late phases after slow (0.5 mL/s) Resovist administration. Materials and Methods: Seventy-three patients were submitted on clinical indication to MR examination with Resovist. Signal intensity of 92 detected focal lesions (5–80 mm) were measured with regions of interest and normalized to paravertebral muscle in arterial, portal, equilibrium and T1/T2 late phases, by two observers in conference. Five values of percentage variations per patient were obtained and statistically evaluated. Results: The enhancement obtained on dynamic study is mo…

Nanocrystalline Hydroxyapatite-Based Material Already Contributes to Implant Stability After 3 Months: A Clinical and Radiologic 3-Year Follow-up Inv…

2014

The present study reports on a 3-year clinical and radiologic follow-up investigation of dental implants placed 3 and 6 months after sinus augmentation in 14 patients. Augmentation was performed with a synthetic bone substitute material composed of nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite. The aim of the study was to determine how the integration period of the bone substitute material, that is, 3 months or 6 months, influences implant integration within the patient's upper jaw. Therefore, the following clinical and radiologic parameters were investigated: implant being in situ; Periotest value; and presence of peri-implant osteolysis, bleeding on probing, plaque, and soft tissue recession around the …

Diagnosis and Classification of 17 Diseases from 1404 Subjects via Pattern Analysis of Exhaled Molecules.

2016

We report on an artificially intelligent nanoarray based on molecularly modified gold nanoparticles and a random network of single-walled carbon nanotubes for noninvasive diagnosis and classification of a number of diseases from exhaled breath. The performance of this artificially intelligent nanoarray was clinically assessed on breath samples collected from 1404 subjects having one of 17 different disease conditions included in the study or having no evidence of any disease (healthy controls). Blind experiments showed that 86% accuracy could be achieved with the artificially intelligent nanoarray, allowing both detection and discrimination between the different disease conditions examined.…
