Nel presente lavoro è descritto un modulo didattico sviluppato, nell’ambito del progetto europeo IRRESISTIBLE, dall’unità di Palermo sul tema dell’applicazione delle nanoscienze allo sfruttamento dell’energia solare. L’attività è stata rivolta ad alunni del biennio dell’Istituto Tecnico, nell’ambito delle discipline Scienze Chimiche Integrate e Scienze e Tecnologie Applicate Chimca e ad alunni dell’ultimo anno del Liceo Scientifico, nell’ambito della disciplina Fisica. The article underlines how techniques on the nano-metric scale have transformed and improved the scope of lighting products, improving their performance in terms of energy-consumption, luminosity produced, over-heating, longer life, etc. Consequrntly, Led, Oled, and Woled are all mentioned: acronyms that indicate lighting systems of indubitable quality, but still possessing undeniable limitations, especially in terms of cost, due to the high financial outlay demanded by the production process.

This perspective aims to report on experimental preparation and investigation tools for engineering molecular thin films with a three-dimensional (3D) nanoscale control that is of relevant interest for different emerging applications as well as for the development of calibration standards. Such thin films may be obtained by man-made methods, self-assembly or spatio-temporal self-organization and/or by the combination of these last approaches with external tools. In architecture and building practise, the development of new materials such as the nanostructured materials, and especially the nanocomposite materials, will lead to a huge revolution in the way architects and engineers think about planning and building as well as living inside new high-performance structures. New materials, new construction procedures and technologies, new structures will allow us construct higher and bigger enhanced buildings, structures and infrastructures with new and enhanced functionalities and perspectives. In this study we will analyze how these new technologies will change, or are still changing, the construction world.
